After seeing Brokeback Mountain for the third time I had written a short email to a small group of people making my final comments on the film. The one thing I pointed out most importantly to me at the time, was that I felt like the music in the movie itself was personified. It was like every time I heard that same painful tune it was as if another character was present on the screen. And every time I heard that music, even in the commercials, my heart ached and my stomach had that same butterfly feeling again and again.
So while I didn’t expect the movie to win, nor would Heath, Michelle and even Jake, and I did expect that Ang would get the award, what I am most thrilled about is that Best Original Score went to Gustavo Santaolalla for his incredible music in Brokeback Mountain. So “para todos Latinos” I congratulate Gustavo and thank him for making his character come to life and being rewarded for it.
