MsParker to Maine - 4...Shane to Long Island - 1!!!!!

As we entered the 11th year of knowing each other, Shane finally made his long promised visit to Long Island. And what a whirlwind weekend we had to mark the event. The whole four-five days were wonderful, full of laughter, and a brief, but heartfelt, Hallmark moment.

Friday we saw Brokeback (just as amazing the second time)….Saturday a trip to CT to visit with BookishLady and Beauty Bandit…Sunday in New York City…Monday began sleeping on the couch in my living room and ended with eating dinner on a couch in a swanky café.

What a relief that we had changed some initial Friday night plans from going out to a pub to seeing Brokeback Mountain…as Saturday’s conversation (and even some of Monday’s) was dominated by the love story. I must admit there was a part of me a bit nervous about spending Saturday with the literary ladies of Live Journal…would I seem a fool compared to the fabulous and brilliant minds of the three people I would be with. But instead, I had a fabulous day…we started with Brokeback discussion…created some lists and answered some questions prepared ahead of time by Bookish and Bandit (wonderful!)…ate some home made salsa (thank you Bookish - brava!)…went to lunch…strolled West Hartford with coffee…and ended with Brokeback discussion. Overall it was one of the loveliest days I’ve had, and I hope it doesn’t have to be too long before it can happen again.

Sunday Shane and I hit the streets of Manhattan. Took some photos with the waxy celebs at Madame Tussauds, including Shane’s favorite with Teri Hatcher and a particularly, well calculated, dirty shot of Shane with N’Sync. Had dinner with a family friend who I hadn’t seen in quite some time…and I think we happily know we have more in common than we may have thought. Thank you for coming out to dinner (if you’re a reader)! Finally, we saw Hairspray on Broadway. I thought the show was great, but my common complaint was that the show attempts to give fat girls the false hope that the cute boy is going to like you. I’m only half kidding about this, by the way.

Monday was low key…caught up on One Life To Live and General Hospital…went out to dinner with Cousin J, Future Cousin In Law J, Rose and ABNS. We waited insanely long for a table at a small cafe hosting Psychic Night. After waiting and eating for a total of four hours we still hadn’t made it to the top of the list to actually see a psychic, and we called it a night. Luckily we were given amateur readings by Rose, who seems to have a real flare for reading the future.

I would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful people who I had the opportunity to interact with this past weekend, old friends, new friends, and old and new friends with whom I hope to become even better friends! Great times are only as good as the great people you’re with!
