Okay so these are back from May when Curtis and I went away for our anniversary. We went to Tybee Island, GA which is nearby to Savannah. We went for the Beach Bum Parade which is basically when everyone in town gets to walk around and shoot eachother with water guns for like three hours. And then there is a parade and all the people on the "floats" have water as well, it was a blast! We stayed at this really cute little inn too.
On our way to the island we stopped off at Fort Pulaski
Curtis got this awesome shot of a musket firing
So if you look way far off in this picture you can see the Tybee Island Lighthouse. That’s where the Union soldiers were stationed and the Confederates had control of Fort Pulaski. They thought they had nothing to worry about (the Confederates) but they didn’t know that someone on the Union side had invented rifled cannon balls that can go farther than regular cannon balls and so they did considerable damage to the fort and the Confederates had to surrender.
Curtis swung on this and then some little boys that were standing around decided to do the same thing, we are great role models.
This is the side of the fort that was destroyed, all the red brick is new and the holes are leftover from the war.
There was a little lighthouse nearby called the Cockspur Island Lighthouse, it can only be accessed by boat and right now they are raising money to help preserve it.
It’s a cute little lighthouse.
Our hotel the Atlantis Inn
The beach
Back to the hotel, all the rooms had a theme and ours was palm trees.
Tybee had these turtle sculptures around town.
The sign for the hotel.
On our way back to NC we stopped in Savannah for lunch, and there was a tugboat going by on the river.
