movies now...pictures later

So I've seen a good bit of movies since I last posted and I have two waiting to be watched (Down With Love and The Stepford Wives) so I figured I'd go ahead and write about the ones I've seen.

But I guess the big news is first though I'd reckon that anyone that still reads this knows already....Curtis and I are engaged as of December 30th. YAY!

Anyway back to the movies...They are Mrs. Warren's Profession, The Bourne Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum, But I'm a Cheerleader, Matchstick Men, The Simpsons Movie, and The Strangers. The first couple are from a while ago so I'll try and remember.

Mrs. Warren's Profession 1988 - Priggish Cambridge student Vivie Warren (Penelope Wilton) discovers a shocking secret in this British adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's play. While visiting Mrs. Warren (Coral Browne), a horrified Vivie learns that her mother's scandalous vocation as a cathouse madam is what enabled her to give Vivie all the benefits of polite society. Directed by Herbert Wise, the film also stars Robert Powell and Derek Godfrey.

This was our last movie version of a play to watch from the last season of the triad stage. I can't really tell you much, I fell asleep.

The Bourne Identity 2002 - A man (Matt Damon) washes up on an island in the Mediterranean Sea, suffering from gunshot wounds and amnesia. He soon realizes he's being hunted down by assassins and that he's very good at killing them before they get him … but the question of his identity perplexes him as he fights to stay alive. Franka Potente co-stars in this action thriller based on Robert Ludlum's novel.
The Bourne Supremacy 2004 - When a CIA sting in Berlin turns murderously wrong, everyone suspects it's the handiwork of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). As the CIA hunts for their lost ex-killer Bourne, Bourne himself is pursued by a ruthless cartel bent on framing him up -- and leaving him dead. Franka Potente returns as Marie Helena Kreutz alongside Joan Allen as Agent Helen Landy.
The Bourne Ultimatum 2007 - Matt Damon returns as the amnesia-stricken trained assassin Jason Bourne in this third film based on Robert Ludlum's best-selling novels. As Bourne travels from Moscow to Paris, Madrid, London, New York and Tangier, Morocco, in a quest to reconstruct his past (and thus clear the way for a future), he's joined by returning cast members Julia Stiles and Joan Allen as well as new co-stars David Strathairn and Paddy Considine.

We figured it was time to see these movies. They were entertaining enough...I still don't think that Matt Damon is all that great of an actor.

But I'm a Cheerleader 1999 - In this hilarious satire, Megan Bloomfield (Natasha Lyonne) lives a "normal" teen life as a cheerleader dating the captain of the football team. But her parents and friends suspect Megan is gay because of "clues" such as her distaste for kissing her boyfriend. Shipped off to True Directions -- a camp designed to shove her back in the closet -- Megan meets tomboy Graham Eaton (Clea DuVall), who helps her recognize her sexual orientation.

This was cute and pretty enjoyable. There were a few really funny parts and the rest was okay.

Matchstick Men 2003 - A professional con man (Nicolas Cage) struggling with an obsessive-compulsive disorder meets the daughter (Alison Lohman) he never knew he had, inadvertently jeopardizing his very organized and artificially controlled life. Sam Rockwell plays Cage's partner and protégé in the con man business, and Melora Walters plays Cage's ex-wife. Directed by Ridley Scott and based on Eric Garcia's novel of the same name.

This movie was really good, and I was surprised with how it ended. I liked it so much that I had to tell Curtis all about it (he wasn't going to watch it anyway).

The Simpsons Movie 2007 - Homer Simpson is used to alienating people, but nothing compares to the level of animosity he's inspired with his most recent foul-up: polluting the river with toxic waste from the nuclear power plant. Now, Homer's been fired and the citizens of Springfield forced to evacuate in this first-ever big-screen outing for Matt Groening's animated clan. Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith voice the Simpson family.

This was more for Curtis, I'm not really that much into the Simpsons so I didnt have anything to compare it to. I thought it was amusing.

The Strangers 2008 - In this heart-pounding thriller, young suburban couple James (Scott Speedman) and Kristen (Liv Tyler) welcome the peace and quiet of a secluded family vacation home -- that is, until three masked home invaders make them realize how dangerous isolation can be. Written and directed by Bryan Bertino, the film also stars Australian supermodel Gemma Ward, Kip Weeks, Glenn Howerton and Laura Margolis.

Curtis and I watched this with Sheng because he has seen every other movie in the world. I was in the mood for a scary movie and it was okay as far as that goes. Usually I get myself more freaked out than is necessary which was probably the case with this one, but I'm too much of a wuss to watch the really gorey/scary movies. It was pretty creepy a couple of times but it was sooo quiet.

movies, engaged
