So I'm going to post the email that I sent out to everyone. There are some links to the pictures that I've uploaded to photobucket. You can look at them or you can wait forever for me to post them here. :-P My goal is to post some picture entries this weekend. And then there's a few movies we've watched lately. The movies are The Skulls 2, Scarface, The Skulls 3, Smokey & The Bandit I and II, Stick It, and The Wizard.
So way back in December when I posted pictures that included the Christmas Parade (
here ) I mentioned the "Pandamouse." Well apparently it's a real character named
Andy the Panda . Obviously the balloon looks more like a Pandamouse than the actual character.
I know it's been a while. Things have been busy with the house and all. I've been working full-time at Youth Focus to fill in for the office manager who is out on maternity leave.
I just finished my summer class on Sexual Abuse. It was an okay class but it was only four weeks long, so I'm sure there's a lot of information that I'm missing. The textbooks we got seem to be really helpful though so hopefully I'll be able to use them in the future.
Back in May Curtis and I went to a futuristic exhibit at the Coliseum called the World of Tomorrow. They had extra comfy recycled airplane seats and gas pumps that would give you directions. The gas pump people were also super-excited that you could order food from the gas pump...uh...Sheetz anyone? We saw another play at the Triad Stage: From the Mississippi Delta which was a playwrights memoir...it was pretty heartbreaking. There were three woman in the play and they took turns narrating, acting, and singing from different character's and generation's points of view.
We closed on our house and Curtis went and had his first meal in our house but I went back to work. That same night we left for the beach. We went to Tybee Island, GA (near Savannah) for the Beach Bum Parade. Basically the entire town walks around with water guns for a few hours, oh and there's a parade. And all the people on the floats have water guns and stuff as well. Anyone with a pickup truck lined the back with a tarp and then filled it with water. On the way to Tybee we stopped at Fort Pulaski which is a Civil War fort. Apparently the first rifled cannons were used in the battle. There's a picture posted where you can barely see the Tybee lighthouse form the top of the fort. The Union soldiers were stationed there and the Confederates in the fort felt completely safe. But the Union soldiers had rifled ammunition in the cannons and so they practically demolished the fort.
When you drove into the island there was a big sign that said "Roll up your window...Water fight ahead!" We stayed at the cutest little inn a little bit off the beach (we just had to walk down the street). Each room had a theme and we stayed in the "Tybee Palms" room and it was decorated with Palm Trees. Next time want to get one with a jacuzzi in it. They had movies in the lobby you could borrow and they were so friendly. There was a hammock up on the roof and you could just go and chill. We went to the beach, ate at some cute local restaurants, and walked around a lot. On the way home we stopped in Savannah for a bit, had lunch at Huey's where we ate last time and picked up some pralines.
The rest of May involved Curtis and I fitting big things into our little cars and then not being able to get some of them out. These things include a patio table, four patio chairs, and a papasan (not all at the same time). I randomly met Hilary Clinton because my life is weird like that. My graduate assistant job is in a building downtown next to the Carolina Theatre and Hilary was speaking there one day. She was having a reception on the bottom floor of our building. I had to show my student ID to a secret service agent to get into the building not to mention I had to show a police officer my "parking pass" (a piece of paper with the organization's name on it) to even get into the parking lot. Then we were on lock down upstairs and the bomb sniffing dogs had to come up and smell around. She was late so we were stuck upstairs for longer than we were supposed to be. So we went and hung out near the stairs when she was going to go to the other building and yelled hello at her. She said, "Come down and say hello" and then we got our picture taken with her, hehe. Then on my way home from work I bought an Obama sign.
In June we moved in and had to organize our house in time for the July 4th Party. So we didn't do much. We saw another play at the Triad Stage, an original musical called Bloody Blackbeard and it was pretty amazing. There was a pirate ship on the stage and there was sand as well. And I think there was something like 30 actors playing 60 different characters or something. I also ate sushi for the first time somewhere in that month. We finished off the Triad Stage season with the late night show as usual. This time it was "Mere Mortals" and it was five one act plays and they had it in the new third floor "Cabaret" space that they have built.
That's about it until the next update. Maybe I can squeeze one out before school starts...but I'm sure you know how likely that is to happen. I hope everyone is doing well and maybe I'll get to see some of you when I come up to Baltimore from the 15th to the 19th.

I put descriptions up on photobucket now so if you click on the picture and go through them in that view then you can see what I have to say about them. You can also click on slideshow and it'll go through them all with the descriptions.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/1003/purplecrazydaze/House/ The Skulls 2 2002 - The suspense begins when an unsuspecting college student is drawn into the mysterious underworld of the nation's most powerful secret society. After joining the Skulls, Ryan Sommers (Robin Dunne) is warned not to betray any secrets about the organization or its high-powered members. However, when Ryan witnesses a murder within the Skulls' private chambers, he finds that the closer he gets to revealing the truth, the more dangerous life becomes.
Not a sequel at all. A remake of an already craptastic movie with even lesser known (and worse) actors. The funniest thing was the "making of" special where the actors were talking about how great the movie was and they were taking themselve way too seriously. Obviously they never saw the first one.
Scarface 1983 - A remake of the 1932 film starring Paul Muni, Scarface gets a facelift by transferring its venue to Miami, reflecting the early-1980s drug rackets. Al Pacino chews scenery as lowly Cuban refugee Tony Montana, who becomes a Florida drug kingpin but makes the fatal mistake of "getting high on his own supply." This special edition boasts DTS 5.1 audio and a widescreen anamorphic transfer.
I couldn't really watch this movie, it was too violent for me. But I suppose it's one of those "classics" that you are supposed to watch.
Skulls 3 - 2003
In this third installment of the creepy thriller saga (which began with the original 2000 film), Taylor Brooks (Clare Kramer) sets out to be the first woman to be allowed into the prestigious and mysterious secret college society known as The Skulls, no matter what it takes. Will this attractive coed be able to handle the mayhem, blackmail and murder involved? Co-stars Barry Bostwick.
So this really was a sequel. It was also craptastic and the ending...was horrible! So there's this guy that is being an asshole throughout the entire movie to Taylor. His father is Barry Bostwick and he's orchestrating all the craziness that the Skulls do to people they don't like. At the end he realizes that he'll never be like his father and basically goes to the girl and is like, "Sorry I've been an asshole, my dad made me do it." And she was like "Okay, let's be friends." And again with the actors taking themselves extremely seriously and raving about how original and awesome this (ahem, straight to dvd) movie will be.
Smokey & The Bandit I and II 1977, 1980 - In the first installment of this hilarious saga, race-car driver Bandit (Burt Reynolds) makes a bet that he can haul an illegal shipment of beer from Texas to Atlanta in under 28 hours. En route, he picks up an unwilling bride-to-be (Sally Field), sending her future father-in-law, Sheriff Justice (Jackie Gleason), in hot pursuit. In the sequel, Bandit (Reynolds) must transport a pregnant elephant to the Republican Party convention in Dallas.
I had seen Smokey and The Bandit I before thanks to Tricia(!) so I needed to show Curtis. It was just as much fun as it was the first time. Sally Field is so darn cute in this movie! The second one about the pregnant elephant was far more ridiculous but still pretty amusing. There's a third one but we haven't seen it yet.
Stick It 2006 - When her rebellious attitude gets her in trouble with the law, acerbic 17-year-old Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym), a former gymnast, is sentenced to enroll in an elite gymnastics academy run by notorious coach Burt Vickerman (Jeff Bridges), where she butts heads with a competitive rival (Vanessa Lengies). But with an important international meet on the horizon, can the girls put their differences aside to win?
So this movie was surprisingly awesome. Curtis and I were expecting a Bring It On rip-off but it was good in it's own right. I might end up buying it at some point. Nastia Lukin made a cameo as one of the gymnasts and she looked sooo much younger than she did at the Olympics even though the movie was realized only two years ago.
The Wizard 1989 - Once Corey Woods (Fred Savage) realizes his emotionally troubled kid brother is a video game prodigy, the two run away together to enter the ultimate video game competition in California. But getting there is half the battle: With their parents, older brother (Christian Slater) and a bounty hunter in pursuit and new friend Haley along for the ride, the boys set their sights on the big tournament, where they hope to haul in the $50,000 prize.
Curtis was really surprised that I had never seen this movie so that's why we watched it. It was cute. And there was a 14-year-old Tobey Macquire in it with a very unfortunate mullet. I loved all the 80's clothes and hair.
