Here are the rock piles (aka "mountains") in Southern California:

I swear I'm going to try really hard to get the Savannah update up this week (hey...I did send out an email update last week and I'm more behind in those so that should count for something).

Our movie weeks have started running together. This week was scary movie week but we started with The Pursuit of Happyness that was leftover from last week. The rest of the movies are The Exorcist, The Evil Dead, and The Amityville Horror (the 2005 remake). I also watched Scooby-Doo 2 so I guess that fits. :-P

The Pursuit of Happyness 2006 - Will Smith (in an Oscar-nominated role) and his real-life son Jaden star in this tearjerker about a struggling single parent determined to build a better life for himself and his child. Chris Gardner is smart and talented, but his dead-end salesman job barely pays the bills. When he and his 5-year-old son are evicted from their apartment, they face trying times as Chris takes on an unpaid internship at a stock brokerage firm with hopes of getting rich someday.

A very good movie we both enjoyed it a lot. It was sad in parts but it was still a nice feel good movie. And it wasn't really meant to be a suspense movie but there were a few times when we were on the edge of our seats waiting to see what would happen next. And Will Smith's son is absolutely adorable.

The Exorcist: Restored Version 1973 - If this horror classic doesn't terrify you, maybe you need a shrink. Movie actress Chris MacNeil ( Ellen Burstyn) realizes an evil spirit may possess her daughter (Linda Blair). Against formidable odds, two priests ( Max von Sydow and Jason Miller) try to exorcise the demon. A superb meditation about the nature of evil, The Exorcist was created with adults in mind and isn't appropriate for youngsters.

I guess I need a shrink. I don't know if maybe I've been desensitized to this movie because I've seen so much about it in countless VH1 specials but I didn't think it was that scary. It was more gross than anything.

The Evil Dead 1982 - Curiosity overcomes five innocent teenagers vacationing at a cabin in the Tennessee woodlands, and their cellar-snooping unleashes spirits of the evil dead. After all his pals have become possessed, flesh-eating zombies, the one remaining teen ( Bruce Campbell) tries to solve the nightmarish mystery and save his friends. Spider-Man director Sam Raimi uses impressively freaky special effects to make this low-budget horror classic.

For some reason I thought this movie was supposed to be more funny than it was. I had seen part of one of the evil dead movies on tv and I thought it was funny. I've figured out that it was Army of Darkness but I still assumed that they would all be a little funny. It was pretty gross...but I guess zombies usually are.

The Amityville Horror 2005 - Hapless home-buyers George (Ryan Reynolds) and Kathy ( Melissa George) Lutz discover their dream home is possessed by evil spirits in this terrifying remake based on the popular book. The story begins when the Lutzes purchase a home with a bloody history: Ronald DeFeo killed his entire family in the same home just a year earlier. Soon after moving into the house, George, Kathy and their three children are terrorized by demonic forces.

I can't see to find a happy medium when it comes to "scary" movies...they either don't scare me or they give me nightmares for a few days. So far the only one I've found is The Ring...it scares me but it doesn't terrorize me for days afterwards. And I don't really like the more gory movies (ala Texas Chainsaw Massacre). This one was a not scary movie. But damn was Ryan Reynolds all buff and hot.

Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed 2004 - Wacky friends Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Velma (Linda Cardellini), Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and their canine buddy Scooby return in this sequel to the 2002 live-action adventure that brought their celebrated cartoon characters to the silver screen. In the follow-up feature, the group vows to put an end to a menacing scoundrel who plans to turn their town of Coolsville into the complete opposite.

I watched this on Saturday night when I was trying to calm down from the stupidness that is my family. I had DVRed it a while back. I actually liked it better than the first one. Of course 75% of that is because Matthew Lillard is awesome as Shaggy. Seth Green in this one also gave it bonus points...he is so adorable. But minus points for the weird identity crisis crap that was going on with all the mystery inc. members.

Wish me luck because tomorrow I have an interview for an assistantship on campus in the Office of Leadership and Service Learning.
