well here's part of that update i've been talking about...

Jun 12, 2006 18:22

hey, it's a start!

so i'm going to update about baltimore and pictures will come later. i was trying to think of the best way to do this. so i'll just go by the schedule and bold, strikeout and italicize things and then write my updates in between each day. bold means it happened, strikeout means it didnt happen, and italics are changes or additions.

Wednesday:
8:20p.m. 8:40p.m. Leave Raleigh
9:44p.m. Arrive in Philly
10:50p.m. 12: 00a.m. Leave Philly
11:46p.m. 12:45a.m. Arrive at Baltimore
1:45-2:45a.m. Eat at the Papermoon with Big Asian Frank, Erin and Eric
Stay over at Erin's House

so let's see so it's all phily's damn fault that my plane schedule was all messed up. delays there earlier today just messed up every flight that flew out and they never caught up. so we left raleigh about 20 minutes late but we made it to philly on time after a 55 minute flight. and my first flight attendant...man it must have been her first day or something. first she messed up the flight number...then the flight duration. and then she got some poor woman all confused because she said it wasn't continuing on to laguardia...it was. so that lady had to go check with the gate attendant and i'm like, well if you're on this plane then you're going to the right place, they wouldn't let you on the wrong plane.

so we get to philly and i mosy on over to my gate and sit down. i'm sitting there for a bit and the woman comes over the speaker and says that we're waiting for our crew (our plane was already out there) and that they weren't going to get there until 10:47 (we were supposed to leave at 10:50). but the plane was ready so we could board as soon as they got there and there wasn't a full flight. so 15 minutes later she comes back on..."i have good news and bad news. the good news is that we found you a new crew and that's where the good news ends. the bad news is that they are coming from columbus and they won't be here until 11:37 (yea, 5 minutes before we were supposed to land in bmore!).

so i call dad, frank, and erin and explain the situation. dad because i was supposed to call him when i landed and i wanted to warn it was going to be really late, erin because she was picking me up from the airport, and frank because i wanted to see if he still wanted to meet us to eat (he didn't want to go out so late so we made plans to meet the next morning for breakfast or lunch). so when i hang up the woman next to me (who had just recently sit down) asked me if i was talking about our flight. so i explained the situation to her. then we starting chatting. she was from canada and was going to baltimore for a jean piaget conference which i thought was pretty cool. so she told me about her research (it was about piaget's task about when you show kids a crayon box and there is candy in it do they understand that it doesnt have to be crayons or do they get confused. so she had a box of crayons and the kids were gonig to go get paper to color and then when they came back to the table there was something else in the crayon box. she wanted to see how they would react if they would still say they were going to color or use the new thing in the box to explain themselves) and she didnt have any handouts so i got her card so i could email her. she was from canada (and she definitely said "so you're from baltimore, eh?"). so then we chatted about psychology and i talked about the study i did. and then i told her about americorps and it was cool talking to her. and i had called erin back and told her i had a headache because i hadnt eaten much because we were going to the paper moon afterwards and she said she would bring me a granola bar. when i hung up the woman offered me a granola bar she had. i took it and the wrapper had french on it and i got a little too excited.

then we finally got on the plane and i asked the flight attendant how long it would take and she said she would let me know. so then after we're boarded and makes an announcement asking two people in rows 1-4 (i was in 3) to move to rows 10-13 because the plane is nose heavy and the back rows needed to be filled. then the flight attendant comes to me and tells me it's a 19 minute flight. i was chuckling to myself the whole 19 minutes. we only made it to 10,000 feet and we never got higher than "train garden level." i.e. you could still see the cars and stuff. i was thinking we could have run into a mountain. and we got to use our electronic devices for all of 2 minutes. (which is funny because on the way back the flight was 20 minutes and we got up to 11,000 feet and the flight attendant said we weren't going high enough to use our electronic devices).

then i get to baltimore and get dropped off at gate D infinity. i mosy on back, stop at the bathroom...apparently everyone else ran because when i got to the baggage claim area they were pulling bags off the thing and calling out names. erin had grabbed my bag for me. then erin and i went to the paper moon and then we went to her house and went to sleep.

Thursday:
12:45p.m. Erin and I meet Frank at IHOP Shirley's for breakfast/lunch
6:00p.m. Meet everyone at Pickles before the game (the virginal wall of "girls night" was broken so it was Kim and Mark, Erin and Eric, Carrie and Ryan, Christina, Jen, and I.
7:05p.m. - 11:00p.m. Orioles vs. Devil Rays
After the game Kim Erin takes me to my mom's house

so hopefully the rest of the days will be less interesting than the first night otherwise I'll never finish this update. so in the morning we got up and i called frank to see what he wanted to do. he said we should meet at the IHOP on 40. it's great except for two things...i got the directions mixed up and we went the wrong way on 40...and there's no longer an IHOP on 40. it's a "Shirley's" which is the same thing as IHOP only maroon and not as good.

then we said goodbye to Frank and then Erin and I wandered around downtown for a bit. i took some pictures and bought an Orioles pennant. then we walked back to her house and i took a quick nap. then Eric came over and I met him...he's a cool guy :-). then we wandered over towards the stadium to wait for people. a few people had canceled earlier so I went through my phone in morning calling people and trying get them to come to the game. christina ended up being the only one! :-) so we hung out around pickles and got some $1 hotdogs and some soft pretzels. then we went in and i really don't remember much about the game. we were losing...then we were winning...then there was an hour rain delay and there was scary lightning and they made us evacuate to the lower levels...then we got a seat upgrade (to behind home plate)...then we lost. we had to leave early because i wanted to get to my mom's house at a decent time. and jen stole my floppy hat!

the next part will be later. otherwise this entry is going to get huge.

philadelphia, orioles, psyc, downtown, friends, paper moon, baltimore, airport, baseball
