let's see

so i got to florida at about 1:00 am on friday morning. we were delayed in dallas first because our stewardesses were cleaning another plane and then again because the co-pilot's seatbelt was broken. so we made it to our hotel around 2:30 am. we're a days inn and it's a cute hotel.

so we got picked up from the hotel at 8:15 on friday morning and went to FEMA's Orlando Headquarters. we were issued badges and then we had an orientation that explained the different projects that each team is doing (more on our team in a minute). we had some other trainings including how to remove drywall (because of mold) and an orientation to what FEMA has done, the damage from the hurricanes, etc...basically our briefing all over again. we also got three rental cars (two mini-vans and a truck) which means i have to drive now which is cool with me. we also got a cell phone for each car. i think that's about it.

so then on the way back i had to drive because jamie and i were the only driver's left...the rest of them had one of mini-vans and they were at chainsaw training. so tzippi and i had a driving adventure complete with lanes ending without notice, a british mini complete with driver on the other side of the car, and a fun turning around experience. we needed to turn around so i turned right at a light. however...the light i decided to turn into was for the satelite parking for the airport and it was closed and gated so we had to turn around and then were were on the wrong side of the road...so we couldn't quite trigger the light. yea it was fun.

and then when i got back to the hotel curtis was there! :-D and most of my team was in the pool, three of them in their americorps uniforms. we all went out to eat at macaroni grill and then i got kidnapped and ended up in tampa. i'll be going back to orlando sometime tonight.

so the quotes for yesterday:

on the subject of FEMA cell phone misuse:
"We are the department of Homeland Security...we find terrorists behind every tree: we'll find you." FEMA guy

and quotes from other AmeriCorps teams:
"I almost forgot there were hurricanes in Florida."
"Are alligators in the ocean?"

florida, americorps, fema, orlando, tampa, quotes, disaster relief, airport
