at the library

so glad that this library actually lets me access my gmail account...though i still can't use instant messenger because it blocks pop-ups and that's how aim express works. so for the past few days we have been working at the same site. we have just been removing blackberry and picking up trash. so basically we cut the blackberry back and then dug out the roots as best we could. yesterday we planted about 60 or so plants that will help to stop the blackberry from growing back. then we drove around to a few other sites to set them up for the volunteer event that we were helping to lead this morning. basically we just tagged plants and placed them around the sites where they were going to be planted.

we were planting at two sites so we split up. my site was near a middle school and a high school. we showed the volunteers (most of whom were cub scouts) how to plant and then we just walked around to make sure they were doing things correctly. however, most of the cub scouts were more interested in digging up worms and looking for mole holes. so in order to get them to plant the trees i told them to go dig up some worms and bring them back with some dirt to where a plant needed to be planted, then they got all excited. we started at about 9:00 and the boyscouts left around 10. someone said it was something about how the parents thought we were supposed to control them or something. so afterward we went out to pizza for lunch with some of the NHS members from the highschool.

and speaking of the highschool, a few of us went there on thursday to tell them about the program. and tricia totally made fun of one of them in front of his class. it was funny but i felt bad for him. we spoke to two classes and in between some of the members of the "green team" took us to see the site that we would be working on on saturday. so there were two girls and a guy and we asked why the guy was in the club and said something about the chicks and we all laughed. so when we were presenting to the class, tricia was commenting about the gender difference (30% male, 70% female) in americorps and then pointed to the kid and was like, "so if you're like this kid and you join clubs because of the chicks then you should join americorps," or something like that. he was one of the NHS kids that was there at the site today and so it was all good.

we're going to see hide and seek later tonight and that's about it for now.
