yuck.

so we finished the work at goat island. we removed ivy off of a lot of trees and blazed a trail through the middle of the island by removing all the blackberry and other fun invasive plants.

then tonight we finally went out for my birthday. hehe. we went out to applebee's and i got a purple balloon and a sundae and a birthday rhyme from the applebee's people. apparently they don't sing happy birthday because it's copywrited and they dont have their own song either. but my team sang really loudly and embarrassed me anyway. :-)

here's the drainage pipe with the iron-rich water that was at the Beaver Creek site:

the trees covered in ivy:

clamadis, another invasive:

one of the reasons why the ivy is so bad is that not only does it kill the tree it grows on but it creates a large windsock around the tree and then when there's a storm the trees fall over:

so we remove a ring of ivy from about ankle to shoulder length and that kills the ivy on the top of the tree:

take that ivy! (yay machetes)
