lol...so it's umbc and fye.

so let's see...since i last updated it's been a boring few days. we worked around the camp on monday. some of us went and collected more willow and then finished on the river bank. the rest of us collected rocks from the beach to lay down next to the lake. we also pruned some fruit trees and set a log in place for a waterfall into the lake.

then on tuesday we went to a native plant nursery and got a tour and then got some plants. when we went shopping at loew's for machetes, lol (they came in handy today). then we went to the fish hatchery and looked at the tiny fish and learned about them, and we got to feed them. then we went back to a site and fixed an area where a drainage pipe was spewing out iron-rich water. we put down some rocks to lessen the flow of the water and planted some wetland plants that will spread and help to filter out some of the iron in the water.

then today we worked at a site called goat island. which really isnt an island because it's just separated from the land by a small stream or two but apparently it used to be more separated. so basically we are the pioneers for this site. so we went in and forged a trail through the mounds of himalayan blackberry so that future teams that come and work have an easier time getting to the invasive species in the middle of the island. the island is 20 acres and there's a small trail that goes around the perimeter but there isn't much that goes in the middle. so then the rest of us got to go around and remove english ivy from giant trees, with machetes. and that was pretty cool. cept the ivy is fricking annoying and some of the ivy "stems" were as big around as trees. and you had to climb through a bunch of blackberry (think lots of thorns) to get to the tree. but it was fun anyway.

so in order that the picture entries aren't so long i'm going to try and cut things up as much as possible. so here are the pictures from monday:

the sunrise was absolutely gorgeous with the rays shining through the trees...
