Stupid Sports "Fans"

Jul 07, 2006 01:13

I just had ... the stupidest sort of argument with a, clearly, ignorant and stupid person ....

So I am a hockey fan(DUH!) furthermore I am a N.Y. Rangers hockey fan(double DUH!) and I go to a message board in MSGNetwork.com to discuss the team and such ... there are a lot of intelligent posters on that board but there are also quite a few idiots who contradict themselves or just post complete and utter BS just for the sake of posting ...

So I found myself reading a few comments that were not only mispelled *BURN!* but were so completely ignorant and just showed the narrowmindedness(or tiny brain) of this person that I just had to respond back .... I mean, most of the time that I see truly idiotic comments I just ignore them and move on because I know that there is no arguing with people like this because you can never truly win with them, they will come back at you with a bunch of illogical bullshit to try and make their point ... So let me show you the levels of stupidity of this idiot and you do not have to be a hockey fan or even a general sports fan to understand but I will give you some background ....

There are some in hockey who feel that North American players(Canadian & American) are stand up, honest, physical, and gritty players and that European players are soft, cheap shot artists, cheaters, and dishonest players .... Those people are called "Ignorant Jerks" ... Because it has been SHOWN that it doesn't matter from which Continent a player is, it's all about the person and how he chooses to perform  and carry himself on the ice ... so it doesn't matter whether you are North American or European, both can be equally as tough or as "Cheap" as anyone ...

Ok? Got that little background? Well read this little gem ...

Disclaimers : Screen names are NOT being hidden to protect the identity of the idiot who made the stupid comments. Feel free to read, point and laugh, heck even join the message board just to write him a comment on how stupid you think he is.  Seriously, I encourage it lol. I provide running commentary which is in ( ) and BOLDED.

Poster 1 Posted(this person started the "discussion") :
(Poster)  wrote this in his statement: "Everyone is saying the Rangers need a few North American players"

I have also heard this on numerous other posts. What is the big deal with the North Amreican players crap!!?? The object is to build a great hockey team from within the franchise and with free agents that have good chemistry together. Who cares where they're from. I personally enjoy our "team Czech", espically when the rangers beat the crap out of north american built teams. Adding people from America or Canada just to North Americanize us not the right way to do things. Your thoughts??

Serapheem(This is the idiot) :  its because NA players a play physical that europea players do not.
Also they aren't cheap SOBs... at the amount of cheap stick work and how much it has increased since the influx of european players.

SnowKitten35(Me) :   These are extremely ignorant comments that generalize ALL European born players. Are you telling me that some North American players aren't cheap shot artists? That they use their sticks only to play the puck? That they don't hit other players from behind? That they don't go head hunting?(which might be worse than high-sticking someone depending on how serious the resulting concussion might be)

Are you also saying that, let's say a player like ... Alexander Ovechkin is a cheap shot artist player? That he doesn't play a physical gritty style and doesn't hit?

He isn't a cheap shot artist and he is an extremely physical player and yet we had a North American player hit him between the legs with his stick last season .... So please, do not generalize when saying things like that ....

There are players from both sides who are cheap shot artists, and are not physical ... and on the other side of the coin there are also players from both sides who are physical, gritty and aren't head hunting or being cheap shot artists ...

I want to make it clear that I do think that all teams(including ours) need a good mix of both skilled players and physical-gritty players but I do not have the mentality of that translating into meaning that they are in need of more "North American Players because European players are soft" ... I highly doubt that adding a player like, let's say, Eric Daze(who was mentioned earlier today and that's why I am using him as an example) would add "Physicality" and "Grit" to the Rangers just because he's a North American, he's a player that doesn't play like that and never has ... so that right there throws your generalization out the window.

Serapheem : Hey Kitten... Russia isn't part of Europe...hence AO(He meant Alexander Ovechkin) isn't a european player

SnowKitten35 : Excuse me? Where did you study your geography my friend? (it gets better, he tries to spin things)

Serapheem : A style of play is a cultural thing. Europe is not the same mentality as russia.
If you are talking about an answer on a test it can go either way since Russia is technically in Europe and Asia.
Go look at the map. (I wondered, at this point, if he was messing with me)

SnowKitten35 : Are you freaking serious?

Serapheem : yes.. please go look at a map
russia stretches through parts of europe and asia
here Map (He provided me with a freaking MAP! As IF!)
Regional map of asia is the one

SnowKitten35 : Oh give me a break .... I know that Russia(actually, parts of what used to be the Soviet Union) stretch into Asia BUT Alexander Ovechkin is from Moscow, Russia which, my geographically challenged pal, is an European City .... Stop trying to put a spin on your comments that ALL European players are soft and cheap shot artists but that Alex Ovechkin can't be put into that category because Russia isn't "technically" full European 'cause parts of it go into Asia ... talk about contrived

Serapheem : Russia isn't Europe. Hence Moscow isn't a European city.(WTF? How do we let people like this walk around without supervision?????)
Europeans are soft players for the most part.
North Americans play a more physical style of hockey.
If you watch hockey you know this to be true. (I have to wonder if this waste of space watches hockey himself)

That was it ... I just threw my hands up in the air and decided not to continue this back and forth crap with this idiot because it was clear to me that he would continue with his idiotic comments ... I should find another player .. Wonder if I mention Peter Forsberg(Who's Swedish) if he will say that Sweden isn't really an European City, no no .. perhaps he thinks it's in freaking Africa ... freaking idiot! ARG! I am SO ANNOYED because I just want to point and laugh at him and, damn it all, I can't ! =P
