06 'Canes remind me of 94 Rangers
I've been watching WAY too much soccer, oh lord! Just AWFUL! But it's a bit addictive =P So far the teams that I most enjoy watching are Brazil and Argentina ... specially Argentina(who has a bunch of cute guys, Messi ... yum)
Anyhow, I was thinking about this year's NHL playoffs and concluded that the Hurricanes remind me a lot of the 1994 N.Y. Rangers, of course it remains to be seen if these Hurricanes will do what the Rangers did and win the Stanley Cup ... but here are the Parallels ..
* Won their 2nd round series in 5 games after losing game 4 .... So did the Hurricanes
* Won their the Conference Finals in a tight Game 7 in Double OT .... The 'Canes won in a tight 3rd period near the end in Game 7
* Led 3 games to 1 after 4 games, came back for game 5 and the padare route was all mapped out until they lost a game that had been close until the middle of the third period. Then lost game 6 HORRIBLY 4-1(they completely unraveled here) and looked to be dead in the water and 54 years would stretch to 55 or more. Pulled themselves together for game 7 and played their best game of the Finals and won a gritty game 3-2 .... The Hurricanes? Led 3 - 1, seemed to be playing "Not-to-lose" in game 5 then lost, then promptly fell apart in game 6, now is game 7 and, well that is still be determined ....
I think that there is a reason why of the last 4 teams to have gone up 3 games to 1 ... two have won it in 5 games and the other two in 7. The ones that nearly collapsed and went to 7 were a bit over confident in game 5 .. perhaps looking ahead WAY too soon instead of getting to the task at hand of winning the hockey game .. then they were demoralized for game 6 and their heads were just NOT in the game ... But by the time time that game 7 rolled around they all collectively realized that this was it. They would get no more chances, they either won it or they would be forced to watch the opposition skate with the Cup in their home ice and no one wants that, specially in a Game 7.
So while I do not have a magic ball, and it seems that the collective hockey world is just waiting to give the Cup to the Oilers(who deserve it as much as Carolina does), I choose to believe in the Hurricanes who have shown all season that no matter what you throw at them they fall but they do not stay down, they do not crumble and stay broken .. they pull themselves together and play their best ... I expect the Oilers to play their best too, but I also expect the Hurricanes to bring it and it will be a GREAT Game 7, as they should be. Can't wait!
Tomorrow is Monday .. today work was Blah, cause it's Sunday and honestly, who likes working Sundays? Mondays are hardly better as a lot of people are off and it's ubber busy .. but Tuesdays through Thursdays are very good. Not as busy and more time in between calls.
Tomorrow we get to listen to my World Class call with the rest of my team, I hate listening to myself because I think I sound as if I am 5(no pun intended) lol ... But since it was such a great call I have very little anxiety other than how sound lol ...
Oh the Summer TV Season has started and I am basically only watching show that require very little thinking action thus far lol ... "So You Think You Can Dance? 2" on Fox(Wednesdays at 8p) and "Real World/Road Rules Challenge" on MTV and "The Hills" on MTV .. I admit, the last two are totally guilty pleasures and I just like laughing at the stupidity of other people in the first MTV show, the 2nd one is a spin-off of their show "Laguna Beach" featuring my favorite girl on the show LC so I love it, plus bad boy Jason calls her in the next Epi so EEEEE!
What else? I haven't gone to the movies since I saw X3 ... I has planned to see Cars but didn't feel like it, then I had wanted to see "Fast and the Furious 3" but then felt Blah about it ... SO I guess I will now hold out for Superman ... I doubt I will go see it the Wednesday it comes out but the Thursday of that week or most likely the Friday are likely bets ... if only Kate Bosworth wasn't in the film as Lois it would all be right with the world ... this is only more horrible because if the movie is a success despite her sorry butt then she will be back for any sequels .. GAH!
