Hockey, Football, Movies, Take Out, and Randomness
Yo! Long time no updating .. I admit I was being VERY lazy, woe is me ...
Anyhow I thought the time was ripe for an update no? What have I been up to? Besides work and such not much although I did catch two new films this weekend .. well .. new for me lol ... "The New World" and "Memoirs of a Geisha" ....
The New World is an exquisite film ... one that I am afraid people with short attention spans will not appreciate .. It isn't the film is very long, at 2:30 is 30 mins less than King Kong but the film is almost like a silent film for this era ... It's mainly a visual film ... letting everything we see be taken in with our own interpretation .. there is talking of course, but it seems that the dialog that is there is just necessesary and not for the audience to hear the actors speak ... It is just a sad sad story, it is beautiful and sad ... it's the story of the untouched land of America and what would eventually happen to it once the English landed .. What would happen to the Native Americans ... and what happened to Pocahontas as she became transformed from Indian Princess to English Lady which as much as her dying an early age of 22 she had already died spiritually I think ... If you want the real story of Pocahontas then THIS website has her tale ...
Memoirs of a Geisha is well ... very good ... The film is beautiful to look at but most oriental films that focus on Chinese or Japanese Culture of an era that's in the past usually are ... I think that had the filmmaker been more confident in his material and allowed the movie to be spoken in their native tongue and subtitled it in English it would've had a bigger effect ... not that the actors had trouble doing the dialog in English but I think they would've been better served if they were allowed to speak .. well .. Chinese? haha, the story is about Geishas and is set in Japan but almost all the leads are Chinese, go figure .. details ... The movie was very good, I really liked it and it just reinforced to me what a wonderful actor Ken Watanabe is ... Go See it!
Now onto Football and Hockey ....
Well I don't really care which teams win in Football but luke2 is ecstatic that her Steelers are Superbowl bound, go Mo! I admit that the Superbowl means one thing to me unless Tom Brady is playing .. Commercials .. last year the commercials were a bit disappointing, not one memorable one ... So here's hoping those ad agencies have come up with some fun ones ...
Hockey ... my babies are, well, getting back to how they were playing in October/November ... The other teams are paying a lot more attention to them because they know that my team will just not lie down and take it and fall apart just because things aren't going well ... they have fought in every game that they have played except a few handful that I can count on one hand ... Henrik is still playing SO awesome(ou Goalie) and he gets cuter every day ... I am worried though cause he is scheduled to play for Sweden in next month's Olympics and he already plays a lot of our games so well .. I shall hope for the best and that he stays healthy and mentally sane through all of this ... tonight we play the hated N.J. Devils who we seem to have regular season trouble with but they haven't beaten us in the playoffs .. of course we haven't met them in the playoffs since 97 since that was the last time we were in the playoffs so yeah ..
Take Out ... I bought Chilis tonight, I love Chilis ... and I ordered Skillet Queso ... which is supposed to come with the Skillet Queso, Tortilla Chips and Salsa .. guess what? NO SALSA! I was SO Mad cause I love that BEST! I am SO annoyed!!!! But not enough to get up and go and complain, that should teach me to check out my order before I leave the stinking restaurant ... will I never learn???
I think that my Mom and I have this sort of Gilmore Girls type vibe going on .. in the sort of we are a quirky-mother-daughter-combo-who-are-friends-but-are-still-mother-daughter type way ... cause we SO do not have the skinniness or sharp, fast mouth of the GG's ... nor the ultra rich Grandparents ... She, my Mom, broke up with her idiot BF a couple of weeks ago .. He's such an idiot ... wait .. it was last weekend actually ... yeppers ... he had lied to her about something and thought her stupid enough to buy it ... please .. the man is not a bad person but like most guys thinks that he can have it however he wants it .. whatever ... so we had a mother-daughter moment because she was a tad upset and we talked about Grandma since had she been here then it might have been a different, funnier, and more colorful discussion ... We miss her, we miss her a lot but she is ok now .. she is, no longer in pain ... anyhow .. that was what happened with me during the last week ..
Work is going well, I am developing a groove that I hope continues ... This week "Annapolis" starts, I am interested in seeing that .. I am a bit suspicious of Jordana Brewster playing a higher ranking officer but since Annapolis is about a military academy then it would not be far-fetched for a young woman to be a higher ranking officer I guess .. James Franco is the reason I want to see it .. I wanted to see "Tristan & Isolde" due to him but I have really heard iffy things about the film which screams to me "WAIT FOR THE DVD AND DO NOT WASTE THEATER MONEY!!!" So that's what I will do ..
