I AM SO IN LOVE WITH CAPOEIRA!
Seriously y'all, it is SO. AWESOME. We sing, we clap, we kick, we dance! It's challenging (and SUCH a great workout), but so great once you get the hang of it. I'm learning more and more moves, but the main thing right now is that we have to work in our rodas or game circles where you actually USE all the moves against a person in a dance-fight! A big big BIG aspect of Capoeira is eye contact and being comfortable with each other so you can read what they will do next so we try to become like a little family. Our instructor Professor Cocada and his assistant (I STILL haven't caught her name!) told us that we would all be given Capoeira nicknames once they had gotten to know us so they could pick something that would fit. I got my nickname this week!! And...it is....Pimenta! (pee-MENtah) It's Portuguese, the language of Brazil! and when used as a nickname for a person means "spicy" or "the hot little pepper" or so they told me! And that they picked it because the context it's used in Brazil is when there's some small person who's just really energetic and kinda like "bring it!" It made me oh so happy! I don't know, I feel like it fits and it is nice to have my secret-Capoeira-Brazilian nickname :D:D I really want to stick with this, even after I leave UNO! I think part of the reason I love it so much is that it has kind of filled the void left when I stopped cheerleading, and it is SUCH a good and fulfilling replacement. Yaaaaaaay! I can't wait 'til my next class next Saturday!
This is your Hot Little Pepper, peacin out! MWAH!
