Scarves up! Queue the Sound Wave!
March 19. Finally. I've been waiting anxiously for this day to arrive. MLS is really here in Seattle. Paul Allen is the greatest! Drew Carey is the best comedian ever! Sigi Schmid is a genius!
I suppose the above contains a bit of hyperbole. I was excited when I purchased our tickets in 2008, but haven't really given Seattle's newest sports franchise much thought until this week. Sounders FC are the first team I've ever had season tickets for. It could be that growing up outside Philly, much of my youth was spent longing for Flyers season tickets. I'm sure that drove to where I am today, with very expensive season tickets.
My previous experience with MLS was ages ago, when Carlos Valderrama played in Tampa and Miami. Since then, I have not been diligent in following the league. Next came digital cable, the coveted Fox Soccer Channel, and all the European and South America soccer one could ask for. Becks piqued my interest slightly with his move to LA and as a result I caught bits and pieces of his games last year. Now, I'm hoping that I can really dig into the Sounders, find a player to follow (Ljundberg seems obvious), and support them as vehemently as I do Manchester United.
I've got my over-sized stadium jacket and my scarf. (@ Sounders Marketing: LOVE the scarf. Thank you)
I'm ready, MLS sweep me off my feet!
