Finally, a great weekend

Usually I  like my weekends free of obligations. I like weekends where I can wear my pajamas ALL DAY. I like marathons of favorite TV shows or movies. Last weekend was nothing like that and I still had a great weekend. Well, I am 4 for 5 on great, with one mediocre.

1. FRIDAY NIGHT: Seattle Sounders closed out the 2011 home season with a win.  Granted, they gave up a goal in extra time, but Alonso scored and Zakuani actually made good choices and showed some maturity as a player (finally).

2. SATURDAY MORNING: Manchester United blew their two goal lead to West Brom Albion, ending the match with a 2-2 draw. Continued display of Rooney's poor form and rumors he will leave Old Trafford are not making me happy. (This is the mediocre outcome.)

3. SATURDAY NIGHT: Dinner with mermaidlady  and new_man  and jgstewart  was just awesome. Company was great.  Food at Bastille was tremendous. No one made fun of me for ordering Steak au Poivre as an homage to a fictional former director of NCIS. Just wonderful.  But also kind of sad because we are face-to-face so rarely.  (At least I was in town this time and did not have a calendar mix-up like last year. THAT was embarrassing.)

4. SUNDAY AFTERNOON: We went to see RED.  I love Warren Ellis, and I have read the comic. Despite this movie being very loosely tied to the comic, it was a heck of a lot of fun. Brian Cox steals the show, in my opinion. And Helen Mirren, best wetworks agent ever. Plus, I can feel good about adding some change to Warren's pocket so he can feed that horse he bought for his daughter. It was a win-win.

5. SUNDAY EVENING: mindiscott  had her local book release party and signing Sunday evening. jgstewart  and I attended and bought a few copies of Freefall for gifts for our moms and friends. Congrats to Mindi on her first success.  I'm sure there will be more of these events in the future.

Such an action packed weekend! But great fun and great friends.
