I just got poked by Socrates Johnson and Bob "Ghengis" Kahn. Gotta love that Facebook.
Greetings, happy Independence Day!
The weekend was just what I needed. I'm ready for the rest of the summer, then I'll get a nice, lengthy break at home. I think I can almost safely say I'm back at square one. But just to be safe, I'll save that statement for another day. I'm really looking forward to that day. I just need to filter out every little bug that's found it's way to me.
One of my favorite parts of the weekend was strolling around Sav-A-Center with my Dad at 10 p.m. on Saturday, both of us having of fair share of wine on the evening.
Me: "Dad, want a buggy?"
Dad: "Nah, I don't think we'll need one."
Fifteen minutes later and my Dad's like "Matt, get a buggy." Meanwhile, my arms are full of ice cream containers, drinks and a portable BBQ grill. My Dad would never have survived college in the sense of what it is today because Wal-Mart and his friends would have broke him, no doubt. Me? Well, the apple ain't far from the tree, eh? One day, we'll pay the mini-mart back.
I leave you with the following:
My Dad always told me that if I'm going to do something, to do it to the best of my ability. Don't run cross country and be average, do your best. Don't waste ammo and shoot at the sky, concentrate and drop a dove. Don't waste time with the rod and reel, work the bait and catch a fish.
So here we go. I need to be the best that I can at something. Not second rate. Not okay. I need to find something I really enjoy and be exceptional. Easier said than done, but I think it's the way to go.
I rest my case.
