So I saw this at KFC yesterday:
Here's the background - in Shinto shrines, you can buy one of these wooden plaques, called "ema," write your prayer on it, and hang it up in the shrine for the gods to answer. And here's one with the Colonel. What on earth would you pray for?
This is one of those reasons I really like Japan - if KFC tried to sell a picture of the Colonel on, say, a cross, people would go absolutely fifth-gear apeshit. But here? No one even blinks an eye. I bought one - of course - and showed it to the manager of my school. She thought it was cute.....
Anyway, got more photos of the Gion Festival today, specifically of float construction. They're put together without nails or anything like that - mostly ropes and very well-planned "Tab A into Slot A" planning. I got some very nice shots, but I also got sweaty and miserable. The most recent typhoon may have missed us, but it dragged a big helping of tropical air behind it, so we're sweltering. I had to stop at Uniqlo and buy a new shirt and undershirt....
Here's the link to the photoset again, and here's a sample picture....
