Lorelai woke up and sat down to enjoy her one cup of real coffee for the day.

Rory woke, blinking groggily, at the sound of her phone. She grabbed it and disentangled herself from Anakin - who didn't appear to be sleeping, exactly, but she didn't want to disturb him anyway.

"Hi, Mom," she said as she closed the door behind her and sank to the floor of the hallway against it.

"Where are you? Are you okay? What happened?" Lorelai asked in a rush.

"I'm fine. I'm at school. The vampire who made Angel - er, Angelus, or...whatever, the one who hurt me before - gave me a really bad scare last night. Grabbed me outside of Caritas and drugged me."

"You were drugged? Are you in the clinic? Do you need me to come up?"

"No, I'm fine. It was something that knocked me out - chloroform or something. And I woke up tied up in a closet." Rory's voice shook. "She let me go. She just wanted to scare me, I guess."

"So she didn't... bite you?" Lorelai asked, her voice dropping low at the end.

Rory shook her head before realizing her mother couldn't see.

"No. Threatened to, but then she just let me go."

"Oh, kid, I'm so sorry you had to go through that," Lorelai said. "And I'm so sorry I wasn't there for you last night. You didn't stay in your room alone after a scare like that, did you?"

Lorelai started to ask who she was with, but then remembered that her daughter was almost an adult and if she didn't want to tell her something, she didn't have to.

"Well at least you're not alone. Please promise me you'll be careful."

"I will, Mom. I'm not leaving the school again anytime school - and not just because the snow's pretty bad." She smiled a little more. "I have people watching out for me."

Anakin's eyes flew open the moment Rory closed the door behind her. He had heard who the phone call was from and wasn't going to interrupt it.

But Rory out in the hallway by herself?

He reached out into the Force, searching for dangers.

He was aware that he was being ridiculous. He didn't care.
