I tried to get CoE out of my mind, but I keep finding myself thinking of poor Jack.  There's no order to these stories, I  just what my muse sends me.

All Out of Love

Jack came back to life reluctantly.  For a moment, just a wonderful, merciful moment, he forgot how he’d died and reached for Ianto.

And then he remembered.

Ianto was dead.

Dead.

Jack leaned on Gwen a minute, needing a warm breathing anchor in this room of death.  When his legs would carry him, he moved to the other side of Ianto’s ,,,

… body …

He knelt down.  He had loved every part of this man, inside and out.

He ran his hand down Ianto’s silk tie and slowly began to loosen the knot.

“Jack, what are you doing?” Gwen asked in alarm.

Jack ignored her, focused on the smooth material, lifted Ianto’s head slightly so he could slide the tie off.

Jack loved Ianto’s ties.  They were a touch of civilized elegance in a world often filled with crude brutality.

He loved them for other reasons, too.

Ianto stared at Jack worriedly.  “Er, Jack, what are you doing with my tie?”  He backed up, till his legs hit Jack’s cot.

Jack trailed the tie over Ianto’s bare arm, hearing Ianto’s breath catch.  “Do you trust me, Ianto?”  He slowly pulled the tie over Ianto’s other arm.

Ianto gulped.  “Yes …”

“… no …”

Jack grinned.  “Why Mr. Jones,” he said in a lazy Southern drawl, “ I’m detecting a touch of indecision here.”

Ianto couldn’t take his eyes off the tie.  “I trust you with my life. I’m just not sure I trust you with that tie.”

His eyes darted between Jack and the exit.  He swallowed hard when he realized Jack had positioned himself between the cot and the ladder.

Jack leaned forward, his breath hot against Ianto’s cheek.

“You’ll like this, Ianto.  I promise.”

And he had, and had come up with creative uses of his own.

Jack coiled the tie and reached into the inner pocket of Ianto’s waistcoat.

The stopwatch.  It had been a present from Jack after they had - ahem - broken the last one.  They sure don’t make stopwatches the way they were going to, Jack thought.

Ianto loved the stopwatch.  It helped bring control into a life often ruled by chaos and uncertainty.

He loved it for other reasons, too.

Jack leaned against the desk.  10 minutes, exactly.

Ianto stood before him, eyes wide, stopwatch in his hand as though he’d forgotten it.

“So, Ianto.  What’s on this list of yours?”

Ianto looked from the stopwatch to Jack, blushing.  “I have no idea what to do with a stopwatch,” he confessed.

Jack smiled gently and took Ianto’s hand, drawing him near.  “We’ll think of something,” he said softly.

And they had.  They’d actually written out a list one night; it covered 3 pages.  They were enthusiastically working their way through it and they both had really been looking forward to number 41.

I wish we’d done that one first, Jack thought sadly. Ianto would really have loved it.

He heard heavy boot steps in the hall.  He’d been a soldier enough times, dealt with bureaucracies long enough to know what was coming next.

He thrust the tie and stopwatch at Gwen.  “Put these in your pocket,” he said urgently.  “Hide them in Hub 2, put them someplace I’ll be able to find them.”

“Jack, you keep them!  Why -“

“Hide them,” he interrupted.  And go to Ianto’s family, keep them safe.”

“Why can’t you keep them safe?”

He didn’t answer.  He leaned down to brush a soft curl off Ianto’s forehead.  Jack breathed a kiss onto Ianto’s lips.  “I promise you,” he whispered, “a thousand years from now -“

The double doors slammed open.  Jack jerked his head back and stood before the soldiers could yank him up.

He looked at his dead lover for the last time and let the soldiers take him away.
