Confusion & Bewilderment

Feb 21, 2010 21:49

I have been in Shanghai for a little over 2 weeks and yet to show off my alter ego to this new world. The main reason for this is because it been all work and only 3 days off.

On todays free day I had a look around the city and worked out the train system in preparation for some outings next weekend.

The highlight of the day was visiting the Kaixuanmen Sex Super Market. This is a 4 storey department store, all about pleasure and well being. The first 3 floors are full small shops selling all sorts of herbs and other dried things I could not make out. The top floor has about 50 small sex shops full of all sorts of fun things including some B&D items.

Most of the shops were staffed by middle aged women in white lab coats ( could of been from the Ponds Institute ) One woman handed me a male g shaped vibrating G spot stimulator that i ended up buying. I even got up sold on a wireless remote control egg vibrator. All up the 2 toys and a couple bottles of lube were around $25.

The Confusion & Bewilderment part of the day was on the way home I came across a custom made shoe shop. When I went to order a pair of made made shoes. The confusion ( and amusement ) was the shop assistant measuring my feet a discovering my feet are 2 different sizes. The Bewilderment was when the penny dropped that this western man actually wanted to get a pair of females shoes made for himself.

last night we went out to a restaurant which had a far far far western china cuisine. So far west it was almost turkish. The waiter brought out some roast lamb, put on some plastic gloves and tore it apart. Then he handed us all gloves so we could help ourselves. It was a typical Saturday night for me as it involved gloves tearing flesh.

After dinner when we returned to our apartments I partook in some "herbal" substances which I would have thought weren't freely available but apparently is.

Shanghai is huge. 20 to 30 storey apartment buildings are everywhere. Its a lot like new york in vibe ( so my the stories my colleagues tell me ) in some respects a little wilder and some respects a little more restrained. Language has been my frustration at the moment and is the key to peeling another layers off this onion.
Its been fun playing charades in shops trying to explain what your looking for. The last gam was trying ask for nail polish remover.

The only major thing i left at home was my favorite and most comfy pair of heels but they should be reunited with me in the next few days.

The chinese fashions are very me. When the fabric and tailoring shops open again next weekend after the new year holidays i will be ordering quite a few new modern chines based outfits.

thats about it for now.
