What? No rain?

Two weeks ago tonight Hubby came home and cut the grass. We wanted to put on some autumn weed & feed & mosskiller. You can do this from September onwards, when the soil is warm but rain is forecast (to wash the granules into the ground). We waited. And waited. But we have been under an area of high pressure and we've had fine, sometimes warm weather. This has been great for seasonal washing - all those summer things that will no longer be required until at least spring are washed and put away, but not so good for grass care.

I checked the weather forecast on Sunday and it said it would rain on us on Monday. Great. I went out and spread the weed & feed. The cat is not supposed to go on the grass until it is all washed in. No rain on Monday. It DID rain for a couple of hours on Tuesday, but nothing substantial. Nothing since. So that cat has stopped asking to be let out - she just sits and stares through the window at the world. A tiny bit of drizzle yesterday, but nowhere near enough.

So, I have just had to get the hosepipe out and water the back grass. This annoys me, as I have to pay for the water (watering cans from the water butts would a total pain) and we have complained of so much rain over the summer and now we needed some it never came. It is extremely dark, and I suppose now that I have been and done this it will rain all afternoon...

I still need to do a review of the veg garden. But inspired by mrs_picasso I have got some 'winter manure' seeds to sow and will get them sorted over the weekend.
