Saturday was extremely warm and virtually cloudless. Will this be the last day of summer? There was no breeze and the sun was hot. Wonderful.
We have taken delivery of the shed. This is flatpack and is going to be A Project. We cleared the rhubarb patch of old rhubarb. There is a holly tree at the very corner, which I am hoping can stay. There is a climbing hydrangea on the fence which will have to go. We had to move the cherry tree which I bought earlier this year, as this was in the middle of the rhubarb patch. We had to dig up one of the redcurrant bushes to make room for the cherry. See the knock on effect of one action?
In addition to this we cut the front hedge and are hoping this will be the last cut of the year. Depending on the weather it may need one more light trim before winter. I 'tidied up' the two fuchsias in the front border. They had gone mad this year and were both massive. I am trying to remember if I cut them in spring - pretty sure I did. Anyhow, I filled two bin bags just with fuchsia bits!
Yesterday was a trip to the tip with garden cuttings and then to B&Q for slabs for the base of the shed. Amazingly they were totally out of the large size slabs we wanted - the cheapest and most basic. We decided it was A Sign that we shouldn't buy from there and P is going to price some up at a builder's merchants near work in his lunchtime.
It is cloudy today but the forecast is dry, so I am going to paint some fencing. I'll start with the panels that will be behind the shed. I am waiting for the washing machine to beep to tell me I can hang stuff out, then off to buy milk and call at the Post Office. Then, on with the painting gear!
