A friend of mine sent me this photo of Bush on a mock cover of TIME magazine with a band across it saying "Black Tuesday Coverage" and "We are FUCKED". hahahah. Then my uncle sent me a picture of "Kerry" with a T-shirt on that says, "I spent 250 million to be President of the U.S.A. and all I got was this lousy T-shirt". Ha.
So yeah... I was severely sleep deprived, so Ron and I ended up sleeping at midnight on election eve Tuesday. I could see how the map of states was turning firey red over the night... states all going to Bush. A big red slash right down the middle of the nation, then scooping up all of the south's votes. Dammit. Little spots of blue for Kerry in the northeast, California, Hawaii. See the final map
HERE. They thought Ohio would be the next Florida (remember the 2000 fiasco?) because it took FOREVER to count with absentee ballots and such and it was worth the most electoral votes that Bush NEEDED to win.
I was in a pretty bad mood most of Wed. after I found out Bush had pretty much taken it, though I had suspected he would win by a smidge all along. My friends and I were emailing back and forth that day while we were at work, and me going on emotion, said some things I didn't mean/were misunderstood, which I apologize for. I was frustrated about Kerry losing but also that Proposal 2 passed (to make an amendment to the state constitution to limit marriage's definition to only one man and one woman). In fact, it passed in all the states that had that on the ballot. UGH.
But some good things about this election:
1. Highest voter turnout since 1968! Country-wide it was just under 60 percent of registerred voters when it's normally in the 30-percentile. 67.5 percent of registered MI voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s general election, setting a Michigan turnout record of over 4.8 million. How freakin' awesome!
2. MI's electoral votes went to Kerry =)
3. Of all states with the proposal to change the states' constitutions to restrict marriage to only one man and one woman, MI had the second highest number of NO votes (I heard it was at least 40% NO and Oregon was around 44%)
4. John Kerry and John Edwards gave a great concession speech. Really rousing and patriotic. But I think if the Dems want to come back for 2008, they gotta work on strategy (not that I am a Dem, but I do lean Dem most of the time). They need to be stronger and propel better leaders forward.
But as Dawg put in his journal, a quote from South Park that basically said political races are always "between a giant douche and a turd sandwich" because "They're the only people who suck up enough to make it that far in politics." Well put! I didn't care for any of the candidates for prez, but I voted for who I thought was less of a turd. =) Oh well. We got Bush. We gotta deal with it. Don't say you're moving to Canada, because while it is probably the next best option for a country to move to, it's overall better here (that is a whole topic in its own). The U.S. can suck sometimes, but it could be worse!
I hoped now that the races are over that Ron and I would stop bickering about politics. It's cooled off, but he still tries to get his jabs in. Whatever. =P
So on to new topics...
It's been a busy week at work still with holiday ads. Worked some more overtime and I'll need it! Took Friday off from work to spend a day with Aunt Pat, since she goes back to Hawaii Saturday and I really didn't have time to see her with the holiday and elections and stuff. (Have waaaay too many vacation days to kill this month, but this always happens.)
Me, Aunt Pat, Aunt Sue and my sibs went out to eat at Olive Garden for lunch. I found out more about my Canadian cousin Mike's death, because Aunt Pat and Aunt Sue just got back from seeing the Canadian relatives. Apparantly Mike was smoking weed at first, then switched to morphine and cocaine. Went to treatment and got clean. It will still take many weeks to get the toxicology reports back. But all they know still is that his heart gave out. Probably from the drugs combined with his asthma meds, because those can be hard on the heart, too. So sad. But I must say that it has wisened my brother up alot. My sis said my brother wanted to talk to my cousin Megan and find out what Mike was on, and my brother was really worried, like frantically worried and wanted details of the drugs. Though Mike's death was unfortunate, maybe it will teach my brother a lesson.
After lunch, we went to Kohl's, then shopped at Lakeside Mall to get early Christmas presents for each other. I got some sexy, form-fitting girly clothes (and wanna go back for more!)... two different sweaters in pink and sexy flare jeans. I really need to stop "dressing like a boy" but plain jeans, sweats and fleece are so comfy in winter. Got Aunt Pat a book and some dressy clothes and Justine a pair of Converse All-Stars. Kids never change, heh. She is getting into the teen phase and liking shopping more (hooray). Even getting into 89x and she's only 12. 12 or 13 is about when I really started paying attention to music.
Aunt Sue left to pick Justine up from school, Ruth dropped antsy Jeff at home and came back to the mall so we could continue to shop. Afterward, swung by Ruth's apartment to give Aunt Pat a peek. She has so much cool Irish-themed stuff around, all from that store near Lakeside. Damn, I gotta go.
We came back to my condo where Ron was putting together the sound system for my movie theater. Aunt Sue came with my Uncle Joe and Justine and had Boston Market dinner for us all, yummmm. Mom, Dad and Jeff showed up. Ron's mom came by to give mom a housewarming gift... a really cool crystal pedestal bowl in the shape of a big crown! Hahah, perfect for "the duchess". Made in Ireland, too. I gave mom an Irish plaque like the one hanging on my wall (has the Irish home blessing).
After we ate, we all headed downstairs to my movie theater to watch "Around The World in 80 Days", the Disney version. It was OK. But everyone was surely blown away by the coolness of my theater and kept commenting on it. My theater isn't done and I don't want to show any movies to the masses until it's PRISTINE, but I thought I'd give Aunt Pat a taste since I won't see her for almost another year. I really gotta get to working on it again. Maybe I'll post some photos of it in operation last night...
On Saturday, I got a heater for my fish tank (I don't think it works and may have to take it back), a plant and background art for the tank. We also rigged the hood and light to fit on the top. It is looking good! Wanna get more fishies. I also have to go over my parents' to get my oil changed and take some photos of their new house, now that they're living in it. I was kinda ticked that they moved and didn't make sure I had their new address/zip and new home phone number! Freaks.
Tonight's Matt and Mike's "Pussy Party" so I can see their new grey kitty and play some board games, which should be phun. Hahahaha. Got any name ideas for a silvery-grey girl kitty?
By the way, I got photos of Pontiac 1-5 to upload, taken on Wednesday, but it was almost rush hour and couldn't get too close because of the mad traffic on that corner. Damn it was cold out there... I could see my breath! The building's all a pile of rubble now and got to watch poopy green seats with wood backs being dumped into dumpsters. Booo.
