A Very Guerrillas Halloween and Oh-What-A-Night at the mansion

Monsters and Margaritas: a Detroit Guerrillas Halloween
I'd worked like a dog all last week. Overtime chex, here I come! Woot. Just a few more weeks and we'll be over this holiday ads stuff.

It made it hard to work on my costume. I had it all planned out all year and thought I'd begin work in late September/October. I scoured Halloween stores near and far for a piece to my costume and found nothing and bought something I thought would work on eBay. I get it in the mail and open the package, only to find that the item doesn't look like the photo on the package and that I prob. can't make it look that way by modifying it. LIARS. So back to square 1... I have 1 week and I gotta make this thing myself. The overtime made it practically impossible to gather what I would need from the craft stores. I wasn't ready for Thursday's Detroit Guerrillas Halloween bash at Agave downtown. So... I pulled out last year's thrown together costume... Marilyn Manson.

I got out from work late, then had to rush home and get the face paint on and all. Was having issues. Contacts wouldn't go in. Jonathan was running late and still had to pick up Joe, so he wasn't at my house yet. Dammit! I rushed to Jen's and we drove down. She looked over at me in the car in the dark and said I was scary. Hee hee.

We met Mike and Matt there. They had the Star Wars theme going on. Matt was a Royal Imperial Guard (sweet helmet he ordered and painted), Mike was Boba Fett (with hand-painted battle-damaged armor like the movie, done from screen shots). Jonathan and Joe had just shown up too, and they were horny... rather, they had realistic looking horns protruding from their heads, hee hee. Jen was a pirate/gypsy wench. Hell even Rob made it out there, though no costume. =( And the other Joe... from the Cass Cafe Guerrillas meet... all the way from Ann Arbor again. WOW. Nice dude.

There were quite a few guys there, and some in costume. A gondola boat man, a pumpkin, a sailor boy, a mardi gras guy with a boa and "Fairy for Kerry" pin (LOL) and a few other people. The margaritas were yummy, the mexican food rocked and we had some great conversations. It was funny how small a world it is, because many people there have LiveJournals. I had a deep conversation with Mike. Matt, you got yerself a great guy! Jen was hooking up with one of Rob's co-workers... and got his number. U go girl! But Rob kinda looked like he wanted to say something about that. What's up, Rob?

We didn't mean to stay so long but we were having fun and left wayyy after 1. Oh well. Another fun Guerrillas meet, Matt. I will post photos of it soon along with...

The Fabulous Mansion Monster Mash in Boston Edison!!!

Matt and Mike live in the fabulous Boston Edison district of Detroit. I've written about it many times in here and posted photos before, but here's some photos I found online to show you what kinda houses are there. See, not all of Detroit's neighborhoods are ghetto!

So anyway... the people who own the Kresge house (yes, the former house of Sebastian Kresge who founded Kresge/Kmart stores) have a huge costume Halloween party every year for the neighborhood. Matt and Mike got invited to it, and invited me, Jen and Ashley. Everyone wore their costumes from Guerrillas, except I wore my intended costume which was... well, I can't say until after Sat's party when everyone finally has seen me. ;) But I worked on it all night Friday and all afternoon Sat. Ashley was Trinity from The Matrix. Anywho, you have to wear a costume, bring $2 to get in (which goes to charity), bring a dish to pass, and BYOB.

Let me just say that it was PHENOMINAL. One of the best parties I have ever been to. The mansion was beautiful. Iron gates along the front. Nicely landscaped grounds. A huge chandelier hung from the foyer ceiling. Wood floors and walls, oriental rugs and classy old furniture. Halloween decor all over. We walked inside and it was TOTALLY packed like a high school hallway between classes. You could hardly move. There was a DJ up on the balcony as you came in, spinning awesome tunes, and people dancing below. There was a maze of rooms we wandered through, and another DJ spinning something else in a back room. A cool pool table was in one room, and a library with mounted animal heads and antlers jutting from the walls. Freakin' awesome.

The kitchen was pretty big, but we were shooed out by the waitstaff hired to clean up and tend the food people brought. In the dining room was the longest table I have ever seen, just covered in tasty treats. People brought all kinds of food... crazy desserts of all kinds, side dishes, a roaster full of hot dogs... hell even White Castles and KFC, LOL.

But the costumes... holy crap were they amazing and funny. There was everything... a bunch of Star Wars characters, a HUGE realistic Chewbacca that stunned everyone, several Anna Nicoles (pre and post TrimSpa and mostly played by guys, LOL), several Dorothys from The Wizard of Oz, Strawberry Shortcake, a few Paris Hiltons, a girl stripper busting out of a birthday cake (played by a guy!), Pippi Longstocking, Marilyn Monroe, angels, a tree air freshener, Hans & Franz, almost naked Tarzan men, a Golden Oldie (an older man totally painted in gold with a cane and all), a rich guy from the Titanic, a guy with a toilet seat on his head and Bush toilet paper, a guy with his head through a fish, a Roman column, etc. Holy crap was it sooo crazy and there were people of all ages there from 20 to 60+ dressed up. People were taking photos of the costumes and I musta had 5 or 6 taken with me. =) My costume's a little big, so I didn't bring my camera. Matt and Jen took tons of photos which I'll swipe when her computer's running again.

But just like in the E! True Hollywood Stories, when things are going good, tragedy strikes. Ashley wasn't doing so hot, and neither was I. It was a mixture of the stuff I was drinking, that damned raspberry vodka plus me not feeling so good over the weekend. Yes Matt, "(we) became incapacitated" is the right phrase to use. I remember going outside with Jen for air, sitting down, then I blacked out. Jen got my car and my peeps and a guy in a chef costume helped get me in and take me back to Matt & Mike's. Bless them all for their help.

I came to in the early morning and felt fine. Wondered where Jen was and called her phone, only to wake her up in the next room. We left in the afternoon. When I went to get my costume out of the trunk, I saw a chef's jacket. Jen told me about the guy helping me to the car, and she grabbed it by mistake. His name was embroidered on the pocket of the jacket, and there were business cards inside. I washed the jacket at home, then called the guy to deliver it. Ron went with me. When I met the guy a local restaurant, I didn't remember him, of course, because I was too out of it when he helped me. He was tall and kinda geeky/ugly. He stood up right away and hugged me, which creeped me out. I gave him his jacket, talked to him for a sec, apologized again for the 90th time and he was kinda standing there looking nerdy, so I mentioned Ron was waiting in the car and politely made a quick exit, heh.

And thus ends my crazy tales so far. One work party and Anne's Halloween bash to go! To Clara and all those who read this journal, if you know what my costume is, I'd appreciate you NOT saying a word to anyone about it. PLEASE. I would like to keep it a surprise for everyone on Saturday. Thank you! Photos to come...

********************************
I still feel like butt, but not because of Sat. I think I really do have some sickness. I have had these dull, aching headaches that come and go since Friday. WTH. Of course work is kinda stressful... we were told to come up with a new copy format for presentation to the client... why now when we're busy? And oh yes... I got my second cavity ever filled today... and needed a shot to do it. Arrgh. It wasn't bad at all, really. I love my dentists.

My parents are slowly moving out this week and hope to be fully out by Sunday I think. Funny how they didn't ask me to help them at all. Hmm. They prob. know I'm busy.

And there's issues with my condo association. The Prez. wants to fire the propety management company and get a new one because they're incompetant and we think they've been squandering our operating funds. There will be voting at a meeting on Thursday. Great fun.
