He would never have thought it, never in a million years. New York City was a giant, condense melting pot of five boroughs that contain culture, money, fashion, business and yet when his eyes stared at the tall buildings and empty space in front of him a new idea appeared. Like any normal day in the Big Apple, all you could hear were cars trapped in an infinite line of traffic, their horns honking nonstop, people yelling at the top of their lungs in road rage, the footsteps of hundreds passing through crosswalks in packs, etc.
To believe New York could be a quiet, serene and peaceful environment was unimaginable because something was always happening here. Strange as it sounds, it was like he was reliving the dreams he had about Serena. She was unlike any girl he met, an archetype embodying what true extravagantness was inside and out. Cheesy as it sounds, that's how Dan's mind operate when Serena enter his sight back in the days of his adolescence where he was the outcast, sensitive, artistic lonely boy from Brooklyn (which he still is with the addition of being an insider).
When he looked to his far right, he could see two separate vertical blue lights illuminating the night sky and where it position is exactly where the Twin Towers use to be. The lights of skyscrapers faintly glowing in a distance create a stunning mirage of colors as well.
Nate slouch in his seat as he shared the view from the balcony with Dan. He was a bit more clean up than a couple of minutes ago. His messy hair was brush back, he changed into the clothes he usually wore when him and Dan played soccer and he was bit more jittery even though he was high as a kite.
'Mary Jane' (marijuana) somehow alter both of the boys' personalities when she got into their system. Even though the blunt was burn out, the hazy smoke linger in the air and the scent of her was potent despite it was 30 minutes ago the rolled blunt was finish.
Dan was hesitant at first, he still didn't accept the idea of smoking a drug he felt was illegal and made people act completely idiotic. Nate couldn't help but smile at Dan's goody two shoes-ness and his attempt to never change his "Humphrey" ways. And luckily for Golden Boy he was able to persuade his lover into just one, itsy bitsy smoke-fest. "One won't kill you", he said. Then it was attempt to make Dan smoke it, Nate took a few puff and pass it towards Dan who gave an awful glare.
"What? It won't bite."
"B-But did you just put your lips on it?"
"Uh yea."
"Your lips, which it sort of connected to your mouth. Which means your saliva must be on it."
"If so, who cares?"
"I do, that's unsanitary."
Silence.
He cleared his throat when he notice what he just said, "Now-I know what you're thinking and it's-well I'm not saying you have the bubonic plague or anything worse than that. I mean what could be worse than the Black Death which killed millions and millions of Europeans in the Middle Ages-I guess AIDS and HIV along with any type of cancer can be similar to the Black Death since they are uncurable diseases that have killed millions of others as well..."
The empty stare Nate was giving Dan made him nervous. He took a deep breath, "Okay I think w-what I'm trying to say is I can't smoke that. Can't you rolled up another one for myself to use?"
"No.", Nate quickly answer and continue to hold the blunt between the tip of his thumb and index finger. "Dude just take a hit. Trust me, you won't die."

Maybe it was the high that made the scenery breath taking and calm, making time itself seem frozen and lost in an unknown continuum. And while that happen it turn Nate into a giggling fool and Dan into a silent zombie. Whatever that was alternating this universe, it was successful.
"Heh, I never seen you like this. You're so quiet." Suddenly Nate broke the silence.
"..."
"Hey."
"..."
Nate grabbed an empty bottle of his Heineken and feebly threw at Dan, "Hey."
"What", Dan didn't take his eyes off the view.
"Did you hear me?"
Dan arched his neck and let the back of his head lay on the top rail of his chair. The cool air was refreshing, the wind gingerly brush through his black curly hair.
"Um."
"I'll take that as a no." Another five minutes of silence pass until Nate pulled his chair closer to Dan's. "Are you having fun?"
His voice, it sounded so cute and yet pleading. As if he was worried Dan wasn't enjoying the time they were spending together.
The corner of Dan's lips pulled up and a smirk was visible on his face, "Yea. We should do this more often."
Nate rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand, "Dude, it's like-I think the high is wearing off and my brain needs a refill."
Finally Dan looked at Nate and let his hand rest on top of the other's, "You're fine."
He absently nodded his head feeling heat leave Dan's hand and reach to his. Nate laid his head on Dan's shoulder.
Soon before Dan could notice, he felt something touching his neck repeatedly and when he looked at his side he saw Nate leaving trails of kisses on his jaw.
"Nate."
"Mmhm."
Dan looked away, hiding his flushed face, "C-Can we go inside, it's a little chilly out here."
He stopped kissing and smiled against the curve of Dan's neck, he knew what that meant. "Kay."
