before the research, if any

many people say bad things about our current president of the u.s., george w. bush.  they say it out loud, bypassing even the mere saying of it, but perhaps yelling it at rallies, protests and such.  there is much printed matter that insults bush and terms him many bad things.

there have also been many bad things stated and implied about past presidents.  is it truly legal to insult all these presidents?  or to term label them in disparaging, derogatory, defamatory terms?  it probably isn't legal to accuse a president of rape or murder (though i've heard about books written by women who claim to have been used as political/presidential sex slaves).  how about if you claimed a president, past or current, was a vampire or a demon?  it was popularly believed reagan was the antichrist (or at least motley crue did).

would you be accused of treason or at least thrown in jail for writing something that claimed george washington was a vampire? or someother such "nonsense"?
