A Big Hunk of Nobody Cares

Well, I've seen several various posts lately on various LJs, which showed that many people have a vehement dislike of Angel. I personally like Angel, and I'd like to write an essay on why I like him. Problem is, I'm shooting blind, here. I can guess at reasons why folks don't like him, but I'd like to know what takes the cake. In fact, I'm sure ( Read more... )

I've always liked Angel, but more so on his own series when he wasn't hooking up with a teenage girl. Nothing naughty happened with Cordelia until she was at least older. But yeah, I never really had a problem with him, he just tends to be a bit too broody for my tastes.

I actually just don't really have any problem with Angel. I like him. I just LOVE Spike.

Angel is a bit of a downer, but he has adorable moments. He and Spike fighting is just mad funny. I enjoyed him with Cordy. *shrugs*

I try not to demonize Angel in my fics.

i wanted to mention here that my bad opinion of angel only lasted through his run on buffy... on his own show, i came to love him, because i think he had more room for his own character to develop...

I like Angel but see him as a much flawed character. He was not too interesting on Buffy for many reasons but I came to enjoy him on Angel. But....liking him and seeing him as Mr. Wonderful are too different things LOL ( ... )

Ack. You hit my major bias. I don't like the guy. Probably never will. And this is purely based on first impressions. When he appeared on Buffy, his acting was horrendous, he was poorly written, only there to be an angsty love interest for Buffy and be a big hunk for the teens. In other words, he was just a bad character. In a Whedon show full of fantastically wonderful and rich characters, he stood out a mile to me, and I just loathed every moment he was on the screen because of it.

Now, cause he got his own show, Whedon actually gave him a character, so I don't mind him as much. Plus, DB's acting has improved tremendously. But first impressions die hard and I imagine I'll never truly like Angel. I just tolerate him.

So my issue isn't so much with the character, himself, but more with the execution of that character (Or the fact that he had no real character until he got his own show).

His hero complex irks me, though.
