Buffy Reboot Thingy

Jul 26, 2012 14:59

'Cause a reboot is gonna happen eventually.

Taken from my blog Diary of a Fangirl.

This is mostly a fantasy post, since I already know that whatever reboot that is the works at present is not helmed by Joss, and the rights do not include any characters from the series, but come with me anyway, gentle readers, on this ride of reboot madness!

I think your Buffy, Joyce, Willow, Xander and Giles are good but I'm not crazy about your Faith, Angel or Spike. I think Paul Wesley would make a better Angel, Megan Fox as Faith(or possibly Kaya Scodelario) and this is a tough one, because in my heart James IS Spike, but maybe Alex Pettyfer?

I haven't seen Wesley act, b ut he's got the look for sure. Alex Pettyfer has a good look, but I don't know if he has the chops. Spike was gorgeous, but he lived cause of the acting, I think :)

My previous comment went bye bye, but Paul Wesley would be perfect. He's like a younger version of David Boreanaz. If you've ever seen him in interviews, they could seriously be brothers. And I just can't find anyone to replace James as Spike, no one else could ever pull that character off as well, but I actually think Alex Pettyfer isn't a bad choice.

Are you talking about looks, or talent?

It's true, there will never be another James to play Spike, but someone else is going to play hims someday. And if that someone is only looks and not talent, that won't fly for me. Spike's longevity was due to James' portrayal. What drew him to me, anyway, was that I believed him. I know Gordon-Levitt can make me believe his acting--he becomes a character. Don't know if I can say the same about Pettyfer. Only see him in "Magic Mike."

Both, besides the looks, they have the same mannerisms, same smile. Last time I saw Paul in a panel, I could have sworn I was looking at David from when he first started on Buffy.

I still don't believe a reboot will happen, and if it does, it will likely just be of the movie. They can't reboot the show, it just won't work. I don't see anyone else ever playing Spike, not without them getting a lot of hate mail from fans. As for Alex, yeah, you need to watch him in something other than Magic Mike. He's a pretty good actor.

Yeah, I meant for the movie. It's going to happen (someday). They are rebooting everything :P They're even redoing The Munsters for TV.

As for Alex, I need more than "pretty good." I need excellence for Spike. They will never get another set of cheekbones like James, but for goodness sake, I at least hope they get the caliber of talent.

That's why he could never be replaced, no one would stand for it. I heard about the Munsters reboot, if they ever do go there with Buffy, I would hope it would be like 30 years from now or something. At that point, I probably wouldn't care...lol!

After giving it some thought, I must say that the only thing I absolutely cannot stand for in terms of reboots or remakes is "I Love Lucy," "It's A Wonderful Life" and "Goodfellas." Someone will be stabbed if that were to happen :p

But when I think of the Buffy reboot, I imagine it like...like there's Nicholson's Joker, and then there's Ledger's Joker. If someone can come along and put their own spin on it, own it and make it awesome (and different from the original), I can be okay with that. But that's a big "if" lol :p

Yeah, but it still has to be a long time from now. I want the original cast in walkers before a reboot is even considered...lol!

<--still wants James to do a Spike movie penned by Espenson and directed by Joss.

Yes, yes, I know the likely-hood of that, but please, don't piss on my dreams!

Yeah, Paul and David are so similar it's a little freaky. And Paul's character is even Angel 2.0 (as Damon is Spike 2.0). If the TVD writers said they never saw BTVS and it was all coincidence, I'd call them liars, lol. So many nods.

Instead of looking for a younger version of the original actors, in a fantasy casting (i.e. it will never happen anyway, but it's fun to imagine) I'd go for people who could work in the role. It would be amazing to see Michael Fassbender - who not only can do the dark and brooding and the sexy, romantic and seductive and the hidden scary psycho part, but would be an improvement on Boreanaz on several levels - first off, an authentic Irish accent; better acting chops; and, I have to say, he's also more classically handsome than DB - he would totally fit the "face of an angel" description. Except I'd imagine him several years younger than he's now. (I've seen him in an awful British supernatural drama called "Hex"... he was a mysterious demon lover in that, but really, really evil - however, also charming and seductive ( ... )

You know something?

I think they'd be brilliant for a film! The rest of the cast would have to be aged up obviously, but I particularly love the choice of Fassbender.

Mostly because I love Fassbender :P

Who else would you cast in an older age margin?

Who else would you cast in an older age margin?I don't know about the older age margin - are we talking about a hypothetical story about Buffy, Willow, Xander etc. in high school as they were at the beginning of the show, or as they are years later? Though the entire cast was already years older than they were supposed to be - Charisma Carpenter and Nick Brendon were in their late 20s etc. The vampires are over 100 or 250 years old anyway, so it's not all that important how old they were when they were sired - and David and James were notably older in AtS season 5 compared to BtVS season 1/2, which required some suspense of disbelief...So it's hard to cast older than the original cast, especially at the end of the show ( ... )
