When Angel first saw Buffy...

Boy oh boy--spamming the f-list a ton in the last twenty four hours, though this will likely be the last post in awhile.

Was up late (clearly) and caught the last half of "Helpless" on the Oxygen network.  Now I know a lot of folks think that Angel first fell in love with Buffy due to how she was licking that lollipop, but....

It's the thought that counts. :) But yeah, I never, EVER thought of it as him perving over a young teen. That isn't in David's face when he's in the car, and the writers don't have it in this speech. I don't even think he's talking about romantic love there, recalling that first moment......knowing what that sweet, cheery girl was going to face, wouldn't anyone want to protect her, too? 15-year-old Buffy would be a wreck seeing the big evil her older self faced later, as well as the challenges just to live day-to-day once she lost her mother. That little Buffy was spoiled and oblivious....the only heartache in her life was her parents' fighting, which in CA is what most of your friends have gone through, too.

Me neither. Yeah, it wasn't like he was about to jerk off in the car or anything. I do think the lollipop being in that scene at all was poor judgment on the writer's part, but it was probably there to help her seem younger or something.
