Handling job moves as a couple started only a few months after we were dating and he moved to Seattle. I spent a year in NJ and we dated bi-coastally. It was rough, but strengthened us. I figured out that between my job at the time and him - I was way more interested in figuring out where we were going together than I was in following that particular career. But when we talked about and I said I wanted to move to Seattle, we also talked about future potential moves.

Skip to applying for the MI job. From time to time I see postings for lateral career moves and joke with my honey about moving to some exotic place or one of our homes. I never actually apply. But this would have been a HUGE career move UP. And that makes the difference. The base salary would have covered our current total household income while moving us to an area with much lower costs of living making application a no-brainer. If I had gotten an offer, we would have had more serious discussions about the benefit package including the moving expenses that we would prefer my new bosses cover.
