Monday morning my husband drove me to the airport. I hopped on a plane and flew to Detroit where I met up during my 3 hour lay over with my parents and my godson for dinner. Then back through Detroit security and onwards to Boston where I learned that if I thought SU was a big development shop I didn't know anything at all. Boston College has a machine and yet, for all the resources the folks still seem burned out. Met a friend of my boss's who was a very nice guy. Ate East Coast Chinese food - if you know anything about me you'll know that this is heaven. Two nights in a Courtyard by Marriott that was decent but over priced and shared with my boss.
Next plane we hopped was to Cincinnati and visit at Xavier University where things were a little more down to earth but with a fully different approach. Frankly, textbook fundraising...using moves management on a massive scale and a ton of engagement opportunities. Wow. Spent one night in the Hyatt Regency in downtown Cincinnati. I think it was nicer frankly than the Courtyard in Boston -- but not in a very nice neighborhood - just a standard downtown. Made me appreciate the awesomeness of Seattle downtown.
Then a plane home to Seattle. Despite the 5 hour trip I was so happy to see my husband oustide baggage claim that I hugged him so hard he was surprised.
I really didn't realize how badly the trip had taken it's toll on me. I was to say the least, beat down and very, very tired. I took a sick day on Friday and slept well over 12 hours. When I woke at 5am to realize that I needed to stay home sick - I had a sore throat and the kind of tired that actually makes parts of your body ache.
I'm mostly recovered now...though as I type and the clock nears 8pm, I'm feeling tired and will probably hit the sack by 9 or 10 at the latest.
