Posting this morning in order to avoid going out for supplies. Yep, I really hate going out.
The past week in review. Took Dad to the eye doctor for his watering eyes where we learned all about the aging lower eye lid that droops away from the eye thereby normal healthy moisture can no longer reach the eye "drain" since it's now slipped away from the eye, hence watering. There's surgery that can be done but at his age it likely wouldn't do any good. Couple that with his age which no anesthesiologist would agree to put him under at this point. While the doctor was explaining this he'd speak for a minute, stop for a few seconds, then speak another minute. This went on for a few minutes till I finally said, Dad, he's waiting for you to say okay. Dad reflexively said, "Okay" and we left. I'll have to remind Dad what he said from time to time but at least it will make sense to him when I do.
The instant I dropped him back home my week immediately took a nasty turn. Within an hour I came under attack from the head cold from hell. After having Covid this cold affected my sinuses with the same fervor that Covid did, so much so I was afraid I'd caught Delta. How could that happen? I'd had the virus, been Pfizer vaccinated and boostered!!? This totally broke my record breaking stint of not becoming sick since 2009 (other than Covid which was an anomaly but I totally blame it for breaking said record now).
It was very intense with the sneezing (contagious!), stinging nose, zero hunger, and the inability to sleep well. I was forced out to get Dayquil to counterattack it and the fun really began. I had to stop taking ibuprofen as Dayquil contains mostly acetaminophen. By Wednesday the Dayquil dried me up enough that I abandoned my intention to cut off my nose completely and stopped taking it so I could resume the ibuprofen, the only drug that staves off pain from my compromised knee, lower back arthritis and whatever the hell is going on with my shoulder.
Wednesday also brought on the heavy losses of Kleenex. Mom's know this one, they learn it from their kids' pediatrician who is more than happy to describe it in detail; during a cold what comes from the nose is clear, and almost watery but after a couple of days it gradually thickens to a colorful goo for however long it takes to end. I told my friend (the same one who "checks" on me) that last night someone broke into my house and poured rubber cement up my nose while I was sleeping. Finally today, I feel human again...mostly.
But I seem to have started over meaning I can't smell anything, again. Not true, I got a mild true smell of coffee grounds when I set up my coffee maker, but the 1-smell is gone from prepared food and if it returns I certainly hope it's different than the last really weird one. There really needs to be some sort of therapy for that olfactory nerve - maybe just daily thumping the base of one's brain where it resides (yes, I'm kidding).
Of course the real pisser is that last week was relatively nice weather, warm with short breaks of sunshine perfect for getting out to the yard for cleanup but Noooooo, all I got was a never ending date with Kleenex. It will take 2 or 3 more days to clear completely. I don't suggest anyone desire to go through it. The only real upside was that I watched a ton of Animal Planet because otters. And my "just checking on you" friend is now vacationing in Mexico for 10 days with no ability to text me so it's really a vacation for us both.
And how was your week?
