The Boston Marathon bombing suspects are/were Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who's been killed in a shootout with cops; and his brother Dzhokhar, 19, who is still at large. They were born respectively in Russia and Kyrgyzstan; they are/were ethnic Chechens from southern Russia, near Chechnya; they are/were legal, permanent U.S. residents; and they are/were Muslims.

From U.S. News:The city of Cambridge awarded Dzhokhar Tsarnaev a $2,500 scholarship toward college in 2011, according to The Boston Globe. The scholarships were for students at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, part of the Cambridge public school system.

...Tamerlan Tsarnaev boxed in a 2004 tournament as part of Golden Gloves, a charity program, according to The Lowell Sun newspaper. He told the newspaper then: “I like the USA.”

He said that his first love was music, and that he played the piano and violin.

“America has a lot of jobs,” he said. “That’s something Russia doesn’t have. You have a chance to make money here if you are willing to work.”
Last night, about five hours after the FBI released surveillance photos of the brothers from the marathon, they robbed a convenience store and then shot and killed Sean Collier, 26, an MIT police officer.

The entire city of Boston, plus the surrounding cities and towns of Cambridge, Watertown, Newton, and Belmont, are locked down. Here are photos retweeted by

That's Christmas morning quiet, there.

Personally I'd call Islamophobia a form of racism, given how Muslims are popularly equated with brown people. I don't have a problem with mistrust of Islam as a religion, but then again I don't have a problem with mistrust of Christianity or Judaism as religions, either.

Also, this poor kid. Fuck the NY Post so hard.

Unlocked.
