Rob Ford, shitbag mayor of Toronto, has been ousted from office. He's been found guilty of violating conflict-of-interest law due to his having diverted public funds to his football charity.
His WP bio, this column, this timeline, and
happiestsadist (and those are just a few sources) can paint you a good picture of Ford's character:
• He once charged, fist raised, at a reporter looking into Ford's attempts to expand his house into a park abutting his property.
• He was once marched out of a Maple Leafs game for insulting the couple seated behind him while "visibly intoxicated and belligerent."
• He's cut council sessions to attend football games.
• While driving, he's been caught reading, flipping people off, talking on his cellphone, and verbally abusing a streetcar operator (after passing the open streetcar door in violation of city law).
• He's openly and unabashedly homophobic and transphobic.
• He's said things like, "Roads are built for buses, cars, and trucks, not for people on bikes," and "I'm telling you, the Oriental people, they're slowly taking over."
• Late last month, he and his brother, city councillor Doug Ford, Jr., were smacked down by a judge for slagging off Toronto's chief medical officer of health during their talk radio show (yes, they are talk radio hosts).
• He fires or otherwise punishes subordinates who tell him things he doesn't want to hear.
Between all this and the private but highly publicized dramas of the Ford family, one could rightfully compare Rob Ford to one of Jerry Springer's guests. There's even an opera about him, even if it's said not to be a very good one.
There will be a quick by-election to replace him. However, per Wikipedia, Ford can appeal, and indeed he's been quoted as saying he'll fight his ouster "tooth and nail." The ruling, unbelievably, doesn't bar him from running again, and he intends to do that as well. The suburbs of Greater Toronto whence he oozed are pretty right-wing, so he could in fact win again.
