David Brooks:
Wimminz ain’t breedin’ enough. But, being Bobo, he says it genteelly, which means that a lot of
"civility"-worshipping idiots will deem it a “thoughtful” column rather than the far-right rhetoric that it is.
New fetus-hugger talking point:
“Obamacare = $1 abortions." As Roy Edroso writes, it's a deliberate misinterpretation of §156.280 of the rule, "Segregation of Funds for Abortion Services." As the first commenter on
his related Alicublog post says:you know what? I'll say it. they should be $1. They should be safe and legal. I don't care about rare. If it means women can -oh no- have sex and not pay any consequences? Fine. The fewer unwanted babies around the better. Birth control and contraception should be freely available at any pharmacy, and first-trimester abortions should be $1 with no waiting period and no ultrasound bullshit and no mandatory parental notification and none of the other crap.
Lord Saletan once again
concern-trolls the pro-choice movement by bringing up a philosophical argument by "the academic left" for "after-birth abortion" - and equating advocacy for actual infanticide with "pro-choice absolutism." Uh, I know lots of pro-choice absolutists, including myself; none of them are pro-infanticide.
Mittens said yesterday that if he's elected, he'll "get rid of" Planned Parenthood. No president actually can, as it's not a governmental entity. One of his handlers "clarified" later that "It would not be getting rid of the organization. They have other sources of funding besides government operations, but in order to achieve balance, we have to make some tough decisions about spending."
Out of Arizona:
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 6-2 Monday to endorse a controversial bill that would allow Arizona employers the right to deny health insurance coverage for contraceptives based on religious objections.
Its sponsor (a woman) said, "I believe we live in America. We don’t live in the Soviet Union. So, government should not be telling the organizations or mom and pop employers to do something against their moral beliefs."
But government should definitely permit employers to grill women employees on their sex lives and make sure they're using pills only out of necessity, not to whore around. Let me guess, Assholezona doesn't take sexual harassment seriously, either, because "bitches can go get another job"?
Kans-ASS's 69-page "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act" is
a clusterfuck of bad law:
• The abortion provider must “make the embryonic or fetal heartbeat of the unborn child audible for the pregnant woman to hear” using use a hand-held Doppler fetal monitor.
• Women must be "informed" about the non-existent "risks" of abortion: breast cancer and future premature births.
• Suicide and other forms of self-harm are not included under the definition of "substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function" as an argument for seeking a post-viability abortion.
• No group that provides abortion services, such as Planned Parenthood, would be able to offer materials for human sexuality classes in school districts.
• The bill would also "eliminate a civil cause of action for wrongful life or wrongful death," giving doctors incentive to not tell pregnant women about any abnormalities found in their fetii.
• Oh, and yeah,
the whore tax. Women seeking abortions, including rape victims or women who could die without an abortion, "would not be able to deduct the cost of the abortion as a health care expense if they had not purchased special abortion insurance." And the state's 6.3% sales tax would be levied on the cost of the procedure.
On the bright side, despite Sam Brownshirt being willing to sign the bill,
its threat to the accreditation of Kansas hospitals and other healthcare organizations could ultimately torpedo it.
A Georgia state rep
has compared women seeking abortions of stillborn fetii to cows and sows, which he claims are allowed to just die with dead offspring in their uteri. (As
various people point out on the Pharyngula thread, Rep. England is full of shit.) And he adds a homespun tale about a young man, a "salt of the earth type," opposed to anti-cockfighting legislation who offers to give up all of his chickens if the legislature forces women to give birth.
A few days ago, the hashtag #ToMyUnbornChild started trending on Twitter. Sickening enough, but then
100 people, all presumably "pro-life," tweeted that if their "unborn child" turned out to have teh dreaded ghey, they'd kill it.
Finally, a much-needed laugh. A fetus-hugging state senator from Virginia - the state that
dispersed a peaceful rally for women's health with a SWAT team - has been getting
comments on his Arsebook page that, presuming he has a genuine interest in women's health, tell him much more than he probably wanted to know:
Several more screenshots on the dK diary. His staff is deleting them as fast as they can, of course.
Feel free to give them some busy work! And the diarist links to other FB pages you can leave similar sentiments on.
Unlocked.
