Two movie reviews

Battleship

It had a profoundly bad script, bad casting, bad acting. But it was surprisingly well-directed and well-edited. I found most of it to be draw-droppingly exciting. It was a million times more enjoyable than similar movies such as Independence Day (stupid), the Transformers franchise (stupid and badly edited), Nolan's Batman trilogy (tedious), etc.

Fritz Lang's M

It holds up well considering how old it is, and German to boot. Parts of it are clever, original, and suspenseful. But bizarrely, there is no real protagonist. Arguably there isn't even an antagonist. It's more like a fox hunt with people, so it makes it hard to care about what's going on at times. The ending, particularly, is a huge disappointment because it degenerates into a morality play and seems to betray a couple of its own central premises. But overall it's as good or better than anything made lately.

Is it ironic or what to review these movies together? :D
