It's official! I am putting on a community presentation of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, brought to you by V-Day! (www.vday.org) I am so excited and pleased to be Philadelphia's representative! I'm a little scared, though because it's a huge undertaking, but I have wonderful feminist friends and I have faith in the feminists of Philadelphia that they will help me take on this awesome event.
For those of you who are not familiar with The Vagina Monologues, it is a play/book authored by Eve Ensler who interviewed over 200 women about... guess... their vaginas! They all had interesting stories to tell, some triumphant, some funny, some awkward, and unfortunately some very sad. The mission of V-Day in bringing this play to communities and schools across the world is to raise money and awareness to stop violence against women. Violence comes in all shapes and forms and effects women in pandemic proportions. Taking part in this amazing event will make you part of a global effort to support women and put an end to violence. It's supplying a positive voice that says "NO! We will NOT accept this as part of our lives! We will be strong and stand against it so we may live freely without fear or oppression!" It's all about empowerment, however you see it!
Even by simply attending the event, your ticket sale will go towards Philadelphia women's organizations, and at least 10% to the V-Day spotlight campaign which is to help women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Why, you may ask? Because V-Day recognizes the strength of the women and girls of the DRC who have stood up against sexual violence, rape and femicide which is used as a systematic tactic of war. These women and girls have endured literal hell on earth and V-Day is supporting them by raising awareness to their issue (which is really every woman's issue) and requiring all ticket sales put at least 10% towards this cause. Please educate yourself about it at

I'm so excited to be hosting this event... now who's with me?!
