My new resolution

No.  It's not New Years Day.

Preamble....
It's me in my organizational mood.  HB traveled all this week and when he does this, I often get inspired to do the organizational thing.  This time the kitchen was targeted.

I went to Target (two trips worth) and discovered my newest, most favorite kitchen item.  Storage containers by Snapware Mods and Lock & Lock.   So spending more money than I care to mention, I spent last night and tonight cleaning out and organizing my pantry and a couple of cabinets.  (I need like two more small size storage containers.)

My resolution has nothing to do with cleaning but everything to do with buying food and then not using it.  I'm talking canned goods here.  Jars.  Cans.  Bags.  Boxes.  I found stuff stuck in the back (and 'back' only means fifteen inches deep) that has been there for more years than I care to mention.  Terrible waste of money.

These items landed in my pantry because I am a creature of gastronomic whims.  I've been known to watch an advert on the telly for something to eat and then succumb to Madison Ave. to the point that I will make a late-night run to the grocery store.   I can walk down an aisle, try a new product sampled and purchase it.  And it goes on and on.

The Resolution....
I resolve that if I am going to buy anything beyond the standard, fresh tomatoes, onions, DeCecco pasta, canned tomatoes, frozen green peas/corn/lima beans, and albacore white tuna*, that I will prepare it THAT night for dinner.  Not the next day.  Not the following weekend.  That night.  If I can't cook that evening, then I will go back to the grocery store when I can cook.

No more buying stuff only to wind up throwing it away.  And because canned items are not always coded with an easy-to-read expiration date, I am going to start marking them with my purchased date.   Have Sharpie. Will write.

So that's my resolution.  I hope it lasts longer than the one I made a couple of weeks ago about exercising.

* This list is comprised of items that HB considers staples and that he can eat everyday.  He has such a boring palate.

goddess stuff, shopping
