I sent my son to school today with a note stating that his math homework was not completed because he asked me for help and I had no clue what to tell him.
The problem went something like this:
The following statements give you the number 6775.
1) The number in the ones column is a 5
2) The number in the thousands column is one more than the number in the ones column
3) The number in the hundreds column is a 7
4) The number in the tens column is the same as the hundreds column.
Explain:________________________________________________________
Now, I’m looking at this and I can see how the clues come out to 6775 but damned if I can explain it in a sentence. They do because they do. This whole thing is vaguely reminiscent of Analytical Geometry where they ask you to do proofs and theorems. That stuff gave me migraines. If that’s what he’s going to bring home he can forget about “parent help” because I literally can’t do it.
My son has learned a lesson I’d hoped to put off for a few more years - there are some things Mommy can’t do. He is in his first week of 3rd grade.
