I have a tendency, when watching something television or a movie that is not especially good, to construct theories or explanations that make that narrative into something grander. Terry Gilliam's movie Brazil is in many ways Fritz Lang's Metropolis remade for an information age instead of an industrial age. In both movies you have fictional (and very vertical) city with a small upper class oppressing a larger working class.
