Pandora Rocks

This morning I re-subscribed to the Pandora music service because I couldn't remember what account I originally logged in with. I got the standard "Welcome to Pandora" e-mail from the President, Tim Westergren. He has a bit at the bottom stating that if you have a question, feel free to reply, and he really does read the e-mail (it comes from his personal account). So I figured hey, I'd just read all about stuff they're doing in Inc. magazine and such, I'll reply. Because it was roughly 4:30am and I was awake.

I sent the following message:

Dear Tim,

I just wanted to write to let you know how happy I am that you've been able to keep Pandora running all this time. I first heard about Pandora about 3 years ago on a friend's blog. I've been fairly addicted since. Its accuracy far surpasses other music services' ability to determine what music you like based on artist and song input. Since my music preferences are far from mainstream, this is helpful. As a mother of 4 rambunctious children, music helps me keep my sanity, and it's wonderful to be able to listen to specific types of sound as the mood hits.

I had actually gone a while without logging in to my Pandora account (to the degree that I actually forgot what e-mail address I'd originally connected with and just created a new account) until I saw the article in Inc. magazine. I hadn't realized a) how small the group is or b) how insane the whole licensing situation is.

So I commend you on keeping things going through all the tough times. I have been contacting my legislators regarding the royalty rate issues. And I will subscribe right after the holidays (those four kids and the whole Christmas thing, you know - no regular credit cards here, so at least we won't face bills after the fact).

Again, thank you for doing what you do. It really is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Suzanne E. Peters

And I just received this reply from him:

Thanks for the very kind note, Suzanne. It's great to hear that you're enjoying the service so much - it means a lot to get this kind of feedback from listeners.

And thanks for the support on Capitol Hill... it makes a HUGE difference.

Glad to have you in our tent!

Cheers.

Tim

This is very obviously a personal reply. Not computer-generated. Which makes me feel even better about this already-awesome service. It also makes me much more inclined to pay for the subscription and find other ways to support what they're doing. Because you know, service like this is worth rewarding.
