Tonight turned out to be chick flick night. My original plan was to come home from work and watch "Star Trek," because Sam lent it to me a couple of weeks ago and I haven't had time. Well, when I got home and checked the tv listings, I saw that "The Holiday" was going to be on TBS. Now, Spock is awesome, but sorry my Vulcan friend romance won the day today.
Of all the feel good Christmas movies that I can still stand to watch in MAY, "The Holiday" is by far my favorite ("Elf" is a VERY close second. It's lovely.). Seriously, whoever came up with Iris must know me pretty damn well. Scary parallels folks. Writer? Check. Unrequited love? Check. Three years? At the time the film was released, check. Her buddy Arthur? Check out my short story "Joey" and you've got an UBER CHECK! Even the returning gumption is a check. Took me a lot longer than Iris though! Anyway, it's one of those stories that just makes ya feel good. :)
On top of that, "The Wedding Date" is on now! Not the greatest film ever made, but Michael Buble is all over that soundtrack and I am more than ok with that.
Even BETTER! "300" was on tonight too.
Gerard Butler + graphic novel goodness + not much in the way of actual armor= WOOT! ;)
I also finished Volume 10 of Sandman, "The Wake." Thanks a lot for turning on the water works Neil Gaiman! All my favorite characters die. Not in THIS story, like, not ALL of them in this book, but I mean in general. The list is huge. Someday I am going to like a character and things will turn out well for them. Though I suppose things worked out for Morpheus. I was just feeling sort of down about the new Dream Lord (even if he is a warmer and fuzzier version), but then Gaiman brought it home with "The Tempest." Talk about beautiful writing. There are no words good enough to do it proper justice. That is one of my favorite Shakespeare plays (Lear and 1 Henry IV are the other two. Gorgeous. Suck it, Hamlet. Apologizes to those who think Hamlet is the be all end all. Shakes could and did do better, in my opinion!), and this story just added this whole other lovely, poignant air to it. I don't think it's Shakes's last play (recent scholarly evidence suggests otherwise), but the idea of that? Especially with Prospero's epilogue and the way Gaiman tied that into Morpheus's story? Mind blowingly beautiful. My apologies to Batman, because this is the best thing DC has ever put forth. Sorry Batman. Still love you loads.
Now that I've indulged my nerdy self (okay, that's really my whole self, but that's fine ^^), I wish everyone a happy mother's day! You don't have to be a momma to enjoy it after all. :)
Gonna go back to being all girly and stuff now. Parents are at a concert, so I'm staying up til they get home.
...Which is now. XD Portuguese concerts aren't that long I guess! Hee Hee They look like their socks were rocked off. Brilliant. :D
