Kings don't need advice from little hornbills for a start

The party actually turned out to be pretty good! We got to hang out with our cousin Tony, who I just met and found out existed today! Ha! As it turns out, he's a total badass AND a riot! We all laughed very much talking to him. The food was also very good. Cousin Manny made the steak, which was really, really good. He's a cook at Harvard!!!!! If it's good enough for the snooty rich kids, it's more than good enough for me! I also proved how gullible I am because when I sat next to Cousin Manny to eat (not something very wise, as he is a big jokester), he told me that the doctor diagnosed him with something called "dog jaw." Being the nice, concerned fellow human being that I am, I asked him what that was, having never heard of it. He goes "Feel right here," and points to his jawline. I put out my hand to poke at it, and he barked and pretended to snap at my hand!!! If it wasn't so garsh darn funny I would've kicked his ass!! :)

Hijinks aside, we got to spend some time with our cousins and just catch up. Come to find out, our cousin Sacramento and her husband Manny were in Santa Maria while my grandfather was ill and when he passed, so they came to offer their sympathies and to apologize for not saying anything sooner (no apology needed--they hadn't known!!!). So that got us talking about his final trip to Santa Maria. I didn't know this until today, but he felt that the treatments were making him worse--long before any of us or his doctors knew!!! He knew all along that it was his last trip, because when he said goodbye to Fatinha at the airport, he was casual, but then he paused on his way out of the gate and came back. She says he gave her a really tight, long hug, and said "ADEUS, Fatinha," which in English translates literally as "Until we meet again before God." So of course all of us cried, because he and Fatinha were such good friends. It just sucks that lately even when we are having a good time, we all still feel like we're in shock. Stories like that just shock us all again. He was very healthy until his very, very sudden illness! When he was diagnosed, he was 77, and had the body of a 55 year old!!!! Good Lord, I have friends MY AGE who are probably in the shape of a 55 year old, myself included I suppose. We could only hope to be so fit! Every member of our family is still just stunned. It's like one of those weird summer storms that show up out of nowhere, cause a whole bunch of flash floods and tornados and crap, and then just disappear, leaving the survivors to figure out what the hell just whooped their sorry asses. And that's what Sacramento's story made us all feel like again. It's gonna take awhile before the enormity wears off, if it ever does.

Ah well. Anyway, we all really did enjoy our day. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow: BACK TO WORK. They only have me Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday though, which is great if you ask me because the week after that I'm working six days again. I am more than going to earn my three day vacation in August. Yes, you read right: THREE DAYS. Not a week, and even FIVE days. THREE. Such is the life of a part-timer. I need to get published so I can get the hell away from all of this. Bring on the travel, please!
