Happy Memorial Day everyone! It was a particularly nice one here. It was just warm enough outside and the sun was absolutely brilliant today.
I got to sleep in this morning until 9. Yes, my summer has been the sort where THAT is sleeping in. Seriously. It felt quite nice. We all had a lovely breakfast together (mom made muffins!!!) and then we puttered around until it was time to go to the parade. It was very brief, but very nice. We had vets from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam marching, as well as some younger vets from Afghanistan (our troops in this city are currently still in Iraq, my cousin Dereck being one of them). It made me a little sad that Bubba never takes part. He's a Vietnam vet; he should be proud! He has bad legs because a bomb almost killed him over there, but he could go in a car with the other guys. They were in their uniforms, waving happily out of the windows. Seriously, no excuses.
After the parade, we came home thinking that Mai and Bubba were going to come up so we could have a nice cook out and spend the rest of the day together. No such luck. I don't know what's stuck in their craw today, but Bubba didn't even tell Mai that we called, and then they didn't want to come up AT ALL. They haven't even called, which is odd. I say, if they want to sulk over something stupid, let them. I'm not dealing with anyone else's issues anymore. The shop is closed on what appears to be a permanent basis, folks.
Instead, we went over next door to the Botelhos. They were grilling a turkey, so they invited us for dinner. That was the BEST damn turkey I have ever tasted. I am never baking one again, EVER! We had salad, potatoes, and corn on the cob as well, with watermelon for dessert. I played with their grandson, Benjamin for most of the afternoon too. He's only three and he's totally adorable. He's my little buddy next door. :)
Now we're home and just relaxing. Jeremy's playing video games, Mom and I are going to be reading, and Dad will be watching tv. We'll probably all watch something together.
I hope everyone had a happy memorial day!
