Random life updates:
1. The cat is feeling much better -- at least, there have been no more seizures. (Hoorays!) Unfortunately the cure for the seizures is apparently barbituates, which means she's now utterly and completely high all day. You'd think hardcore downers would make her sleepy, but she's just as active as ever; the main side effect appears to be that she loves us far more than she used to, and is now inconsolable unless she's attached to somebody's chest like a mad and furry limpet. The cat is a touchy drunk. Who knew.
(I just remembered one of my favorite touchy drunks of all time: the girl at a UCSC co-op Halloween party in 1996 who decided she loved me forever for -- the shame! -- knowing which Elfquest character she was dressed up as. Although, textually speaking, I don't think that particular elf would have been a touchy drunk. I'll stop this train of thought now before it gets any more embarrassing.)
2. Discovered that, through the magic of tagging, one can actually search IMDb for all the
new comic book movies coming out. A new
Red Sonja? Seriously?
3. Have recruited Gaby and
bulkor into the
Barry Hughart/Bridge of Birds fan club. That makes, let's see, four of us. Twice the enrollment of the David Skal fan club!
4. In a horrible masochistic way am sortof enjoying the oddly persistent press coverage of corporate drama at my workplace. In case anyone was wondering, it is not in fact true that the Vulcan Fight Theme has been playing incessantly over the office intercom, nor is it true that the remaining employees of Flickr have been locked up in cages to prevent their escape. It is however true that the Yahoo cafeteria no longer serves peanut butter, possibly out of
Brad-Garlinghouse-related pique. Also, the
random Yahoo resignation letter generator is admittedly hilarious.
I ran into
radioronin's mother a few days ago and wondered aloud as to why this story would be at all interesting to non-search-nerds, to which she replied with commendable frankness: "Well, kiddo, the primaries are over, after all." But what about... Eurocup '08? Battlestar Galactica? Something?
