So, 2010
Eisner nominations are up.
Best Writer:
* Ed Brubaker, Captain America, Daredevil, Marvels Project
(Marvel) Criminal, Incognito (Marvel Icon)
* Geoff Johns, Adventure Comics, Blackest Night, The Flash: Rebirth,
Superman: Secret Origin (DC)
* James Robinson, Justice League: Cry for Justice (DC)
* Mark Waid, Irredeemable, The Incredibles (BOOM!)
* Bill Willingham, Fables (Vertigo/DC)
Girls Gone Geek has a wonderful
post on what isn't there. But I want to talk about what is there!
JAMES ROBINSON, JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE.
The comic that started with inappropriate jokes about Hal Jordan's sex life, continued on through watching our "heroes" torturing suspects, and ended with a grand finale in which an eight-year-old girl was brutally murdered. A fuckton of people died in this miniseries, an overwhelming number of whom were not-straight-white-dude characters.
And for writing this, Robinson gets an Eisner nomination.
This is a world where Secret Six exists and is perfect and twisted and hilarious and amazing and doesn't even get nominated, but Geoff Johns' latest over-hyped bland superhero stories* and James Robinson's fucking stupid attempt at rehashing Justice League Task Force DO.
For best writing.
I fucking hate this industry.
* Half of which I read, so this isn't a knock at Johns. He is very good at what he does! Which is writing over-hyped epic crossovers and the like.
