Living in the 19th Century

Dec 12, 2007 12:10

It's official. I'm sick of living in the 19th century. Yes, everybody looks better by candle light, but my extremely significant other looks great in any light and I really, really have a great fondness for central heat. You ever tried to heat a house with a fireplace? It sux. Bigtime.

Ok, enough whining. Our electricity has been out since Sunday night. The block west of us now has it back on so it looks like the 21st century is headed our way.

So I lose 120 lbs and what do I find hiding under the fat? Lots of things, plus one thing I didn't expect at all. Vanity. I'm having my hair cut on Friday (was supposed to be today but the beauty shop doesn't have electricity ) Also my hair has gotten very thin and we are going to Address The Issue. I'm thinking about a weave, but that's such a temporary and expensive solution.

I didn't win the Nero Wolfe Black Orchid prize (pfui!) but I know about the 2008 deadline more than 6 weeks in advance this year so I plan to tackle it again. And that means I now have a highly marketable Countess novella with no strings on it. I may just give it to Amazon Shorts. I'm thinking about it.

The saddest news today is that Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. Shit. I hope there's a heaven so he can go to it for the Bromeliad Trilogy. He's not dead yet and it's early days. One person has suggested that Altzheimer's will lower his intellectual capacity to just above the rest of us. Still . . . shit. I can't tell Chris over the phone. I'll have to wait until this evening and tell him in person.

I'm looking forward to the get-together on Sunday! I'll see at least one of you then! ;-)

etc., whining
