New Year's Day

Jan 01, 2008 20:41

Well, the Christmas machine has thundered by and quiet sanity has descended. Naturally I wasn't off work enough and it seemed like every day I had some kind of obligation or other. The last two days have been blissful and quiet. A friend called and wanted Chris and me to come to an impromptu New Years eve party, but neither of us could drag our butts off the couch. We read a cozy mystery novel until 12:01, wished each other Happy New Year and turned out the lights.

Roger Corkins came to visit. He seems to be doing well, but his 401k is running out and he doesn't know when he will visit again. We all went to see National Treasure II (and I mean ALL, Chris, kids, Jasmine, the whole catastrophe) and that was fun.

I still haven't seen Golden Compass but we did finish the trilogy. Ok, I can do better. The plot is full of holes and the ending is just flat puzzling. Still, the characters are good and the details of it are beautifully imagined. It's worth reading but it's not Harry Potter.

I spent the last two days rebuilding 2 of my blogs and constructing a new one. I'm going to try to commercialize them and see if I can get some revenue out of them. I got the idea from a personal development blog I ran across: http://www.stevepavlina.com/. It has some wonderful stuff on it. It has some goofy stuff too but I try not to click those links. You'll know which ones I mean when you see them.

Anyway the three blogs are here:
http://speakeasy1935.blogspot.com/
this one is focused on writing

http://redsonja2000.blogspot.com/
focused on politics

http://thinbite.blogspot.com/
focused on weight loss surgery and weight loss in general

I plan to treat running them like a part time job. I'm starting to think more and more about retiring from Printing Services and I'd like to have a little income in place when I do. It would be really, really, really nice to be able have a side job I can do at home in my own time. Perhaps between the blogs and the free lance graphic design work I can make that happen. Also the blogging would constitute making money with writing. That would be nice. Really nice.

So I feel like I am starting out on a new road on the first day of the year. And it feels nice.

new year's day
